For the first time since 1996, the two lowest seeds in the America East Women's Soccer Championship have advanced a round as No. 5 Maine and No. 6 Binghamton both moved on to the semifinals.

Binghamton (8-8-1 Overall, 3-5-0 America East) advances to the semifinals for the third time in five years after downing New Hampshire (6-11-1, 5-3-0) 1-0 at Lewis Fields in Durham on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Mary DeWitt scored the game's lone goal in the 36th minute and senior goalkeeper Jen McEachron made six saves, including a spectacular stop on a breakaway in the game's final minutes to secure the shutout victory. The Bearcats will face second-seeded Stony Brook (10-7-0, 6-2) in the semifinals on Sunday in Long Island at 6 p.m.

Maine (7-5-6,3-3-2) overcame a 1-0 second-half deficit to tie Hartford (8-7-4, 4-3-1)  and after two-scoreless overtime periods, downed the Hawks 5-4 in penalty kicks at Al-Marzook Field on Wednesday evening. Senior goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips made a diving stop on Hartford's second attempt and delivered the winning kick to send her team to the semifinals fifth time in six years.

The Black Bears take on top-seeded Boston University (13-5-1, 8-0-0), which has won seven straight and is unbeaten in its last 10, on Sunday at Nickerson Field at 1 p.m.

The two teams that advance will meet in the championship game on Saturday, November 8 at the higher seed.
