CAMBRIDGE,
Mass.- UMBC’s Justin Bronson (Oshawa,
Ontario, Canada/Msgr. Paul Dwyer) and New Hampshire’s Jessica Little (Barrie,
Ontario, Canada/Barrie Central Collegiate Inst.) earn male and female Swimmer
of the Week, while the Boston University duo of Andre Watson (Hempstead,
N.Y./Holy Trinity) and Tess Waresmith (Dover, Mass./Dover Sherborn) earn male
and female Diver of the Week awards for the second week in as many
opportunities.
Bronson, a senior, earned gold in all four of his events on
Saturday, when the Retrievers defeated Rider, 161-137. Earning three individual golds in the 100 free
(47.52), the 200 free (1:42.58) and the 500 free (4:43.49), Bronson also swam
as the anchor of the first-place 400 free relay team. With the victories, the senior has now won four
of the five individual events he has competed in this season.
Little, a freshman, blew away the competition in her
collegiate debut earning two first-place finishes on Saturday against Siena,
and four more Sunday against Wagner. On
her first weekend, Little totaled an impressive 68 points, 45 of which were
individually earned. On Saturday, Little
won the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.85) and the 100-yard backstroke
(1:01.09). On Sunday she added the
200-yard backstroke (2:22.25), the 200-yard IM (2:11.70), the 100-yard
backstroke (1:05.93), and the backstroke leg of the top-finishing 200-yard
medley relay to her list of victories.
Watson, the reigning male America East Diver of the Year,
won the one-meter diving competition with 321.83 points in Boston
University’s meet against
UMass. The senior went on to take second
in the three-meter event with 333.83 points, and help the Terriers defeat the
Minutemen 134-109.
Waresmith, a senior, won both the one- and three-meter
diving events with 288.90 and 314.40
points, respectively, at Boston University’s
meet against the UMass Minutemen.
Waresmith has won all four diving events of her season so far, and looks
to continue her streak during conference competition against Binghamton and Vermont on Saturday, October
25.
Binghamton- The Bearcats did not compete this week, but
will head to Boston to kick off
conference competition on Saturday, against the Terriers and the Catamounts.
Boston- Boston
University swept the University
of Massachusetts this past weekend,
with the women winning 148-93, and the men 134-109. The women earned first-place in ten events,
including senior Eve Kinsella’s victories in the 100 free (52.82) and the 200
IM (2:07.41) and senior Tess Waresmith’s sweep of the one- and there-meter
diving events. The men won five events
on the day, sweeping two. Junior Arik
Seiler swam a lifetime best in the 200IM (1:55.36), earning first in that
event, as well second in the 500 free (4:45.33) and a leg in the first-place
400 free relay.
Boston's Story
Maine- The Black Bears will have their first meet on
Saturday, October 25 when they host Central
Connecticut State
and Northeastern at 1 pm.
UMBC- The Retrievers swept Rider on Saturday, with both
teams picking up their first wins in 161-137 victories. Senior Justin Bronson, this week’s male
Swimmer of the Week, won three events for the men, including the 100-, 200-,
and 500-free, while classmate Evan Roseberry won two in the 200 fly (1:56.58)
and the 1,000 free (9:43.79). For the
women, junior Tereza Kaplanova swept both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events
with times of 1:07.94 and 2:23.02, respectively. Sophomore Rebecca Godwin also took home both
distance freestyle events, winning the 500 (5:12.75) and the 1,000 (10:22.47).
UMBC's Story
New Hampshire- The Wildcats started
of the season with back-to-back wins against Siena
on Saturday, and Wagner on Sunday, by 161-81, and 167-94, respectively. Sophomore Amy Perrault took first in the 200
freestyle (1:58.65), the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.86) and had a leg in the
first-place 400 freestyle relay (3:41.64) in Sunday’s meet. The weekend was highlighted by the strong
performances by the freshman class, who earned 50 points on Saturday alone, and
was led by this weeks female Swimmer of the Week, freshman Jessica Little.

Stony Brook-
After a week’s rest Seawolves will continue to train until they return to
action on November 1, against UMass.
Vermont- The Catamounts did not compete this week, but will
return to action on Saturday, when they head to Boston
University to take on the Terriers
and the Bearcats.
