CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-
With two weeks left of competition before America East Championships, Albany
senior Brian Yurkewecz (Fultonville, N.Y./Saint Rose) and Vermont
freshman Morgan Powers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian
Hills) earn America East Male and Female Performer of the Week accolades.
Yurkewecz ran a season-best 24:40 time in the 8k at the
UAlbany Invitational this past weekend, placing third in a field of 186
runners. Yurkewecz’s finish placed him
just five seconds behind the first-place finisher, and carried his team to a
fifth-place finish among 22 teams.
Powers pulled away from the pack in the final mile of the
Saint Michael’s Invitational 5k, finishing with a time of 18:44.3 and earning
her first collegiate victory. Powers was
one of two runners to post a sub-19 minute time and helped the Catamounts sweep
the Invitational for the fifth consecutive year.
Albany- The Great
Danes hosted the 42nd Annual UAlbany Invitational this past weekend,
where the men placed fifth among 22 teams, and the women sixth of 24. Senior Brian Yurkewecz ran his fastest 8k
time of the season, finishing the course in 24:40 and earning a third-place
overall finish out of a field of 186.
The women were without two of their top competitors, but were carried by
freshman Emily Fung. Fung placed 16th
out of 196 runners, running her fastest 5k of the season with a time of 18:23.
The women rallied around the loss of their aces, with five of their six
runners earning season-best times.
Albany's Story
Binghamton- This
past weekend, the Bearcat men finished 11th out of 28 teams at the
Penn State National, while the women placed fourth out of 32 teams at the
UAlbany Invitational. Sophomore Erik van
Ingen paced the men, crossing in 26th out of 306 runners with a time
of 25:55 in the 5.2 mile course. Senior
Jamie Schulte led the women’s team across the line, running the 5,000-meter
course in a time of 18:33.9 and earning a 20th-place finish out of
196 runners.
Binghamton's Story
Boston- After a
week’s rest, the Terriers return to action on Saturday, October 25 at the
Central Connecticut Mini meet.
Hartford- The Hawks will face America East rivals Stony
Brook and Boston University
at the Central Connecticut Mini Meet on Saturday, October 25.
Maine- The Black Bears did not compete this week, and
continue to train for the America East Championship on November 1, at Oregon
Ridge Park
in Maryland.
UMBC- The Retrievers ran in the Princeton Invitational on
Saturday morning, where the men earned an eighth place overall finish, and
women earned ninth. Junior Sara
Parkinson paced the women as she has done in each of her races this year,
running the 6k in 22:13.50 and earning third-place out of 137 runners. Senior Anthony Kelhower finished the 8k in a
time of 24:54.00, pacing the UMBC men and earning 26th-place out of 195
runners.

New Hampshire- New Hampshire’s next race will be the America
East Championships on November 1, at Oregon
Ridge Park
in Maryland.
Stony Brook-
While the men took a week’s rest in preparation for the Central Connecticut
Mini Meet on Saturday, October 25, the women ran in a competitive field at the
NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Indiana
this past weekend. Ranked 12th
in the national polls, the Seawolves ran against several other nationally-ranked
schools in a field of 39 total teams and earned an eighth-place finish. Sophomore
Holly Van Dalen set an impressive pace for the squad, completing the 6k course
in 21:12 for a 37th-place
finish.
Stony Brook's Story
Vermont- The Catamounts earned first-place finishes for both
the men and women at the Saint Michaels Invitational for the fifth straight
year on Friday. Vermont
rested some of its veterans and the freshmen rose to the occasion. For the men, freshman John Little was the
overall winner, running the 8k in 26:51.2, and was followed by classmates
Andrew Donaghy and Isaac Henry in second and third, respectively. Freshman Morgan Powers won the race for the
women with a time of 18:44.3 in the 5k, making her one of only two runners to
complete the course in under 19 minutes. The women dominated the race, earning
