CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Binghamton University’s Nolan Slesnick (Austin, T.X./LBJ-LASA) and Vermont’s Colleen Clark (Unionville, Conn./Farminton) earned Swimmer of the Week honors while Boston University’s Andre Watson (Hempstead, N.Y./Holy Trinity) and Tess Waresmith (Dover, Mass./Dover Sherborn) received Diver of the Week accolades, the first weekly accolades of the 2008 season.

Slesnick, a freshman, touched first for the men in both the 500 freestyle (4:43.95) and 1000 free (9:52.55) while earning second-place in the 200 fly (2:00.85) and 400 Individual Medley (4:09.7) in his first collegiate outing at the Western New York Invitational.

Clark, a junior for the Catamounts, came in first in both the 200 free (1:54.92) and the 50 free (25.07) against Army and conference rival Stony Brook on October 3. Clark, the reigning America East Champion in the 200 free, was also a member of the first-place 400 freestyle relay team, and finished second individually in the 100 free.

Watson, the 2008 America East Male Diver of the Year, started the season in similar fashion earning first on both the one- and three-meter boards with a scores of 304.50 and 349.53 respectively.

Waresmith, the 2008 America East Female Diver of the Year and seven-time America East Diver of the Week in 2007-08, continued the Terrier dominance of the diving board by winning both the one- and three-meter diving events scoring 299.93 and 310.95 points, respectively.

Binghamton- The future looks bright for the Binghamton men’s team as freshmen Nolan Slesnick and Joe Perez-Rogers combined for eight Top 3 finishes. Although the season opener had no team scoring, the Binghamton men took first in five separate races.

Boston- Boston University Swimming & Diving hosted Brown in an exhibition meet on Saturday, October 11, and although there was no team scoring, the women earned 11 individual victories while the men, seven.

Maine- Maine has yet to hit the pool for its season opener, but will kick off on Saturday, October 25, when it hosts Northeastern and Central Connecticut State University.

UMBC- This year’s favorite in the preseason coaches’ polls, the Retrievers dropped their first meets at N.C. State this past weekend. Senior Justin Bronson, the only men’s first-place finisher, won the 200 free in a time of 1:40.60 and took second in the 100 free. Junior Lindsey Sherman was the sole first-place finisher on the women’s side, winning the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.09. The men fell to N.C. State 157-85, while the women lost to Miami, 162-79, and N.C. State, 187-50, in double-dual meet scoring.

UMBC's Story

New Hampshire- The Wildcats, who have not yet competed in the 2008-09 season, will kick their season off on Saturday, October 18 when they host Siena, followed by Wagner on the 19th.

Stony Brook- The Seawolves started the season at the Husky Invitational in Storrs, Conn. on Saturday, where the women earned a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The women garnered seven top-five finishes during the meet while the men earned four.

Vermont- The Catamounts picked up a pair of wins on Friday, Oct. 3, when they defeated Army 100-40 and America East rival Stony Brook 94-46. The women earned four first-place finishes in junior Colleen Clark and sophomore Kate Weaver. With the two wins, Vermont’s regular-season winning streak dating back to last season extends to 11.
