CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Binghamton University's Brenno Varanda and University of Vermont's Nicole Underhill earned weekly honors as America East Men's and Women's Swimming Performers of the Week, while Binghamton University's Ryan Graham and Boston University's Tess Waresmith were named America East Men's and Women's Diving Performers of the Week. The conference made the announcement on Wednessday afternoon for the week ending January 21.
Varanda, a unior, picked up a pair of individual wins against St. Bonaventure on Saturday. He won the 200-IM in 1:55.09 and the 200-breast in a pool-record 2:06.81. On Wednesday, he led a 1-2 BU finish in the 100-breast in 58.96 and capped off his day with a win in the 200-IM in 1:55.25. Varanda finished the week a perfect 4-for-4 in individual events and swam on a pair of winning relay efforts as the Bearcats recorded their sixth consecutive dual meet wins. He now has a team-high 21 individual wins on the season
Senior Underhill (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) helped the Catamounts earn a pair of victories on Friday against Siena. She set two new varsity marks for the Catamounts as she won the 200 butterfly (2:04.73) and the 400 IM (4:33.15), both lifetime best times. She was also a member of the 400-medley relay that won in a pool record time of 3:59.62. On Sunday at Binghamton Underhill was part of the 200-medley relay team that won in a time of 1:53.35.
Junior Ryan Graham (Vestal, N.Y.) set a new school-record in the 3-meter dive totaling 348.00 points and swept the diving events on Saturday leading the Bearcats to their sixth consecutive dual meet win. In Wednesday's tri-meet versus Stony Brook and Lafayette, Graham broke Jeff Cohen's 11-year old school record of 306.20 set in 1996 with a score of 322.10. Graham has now surpassed the NCAA Zones qualifying scores on both the 1-meter (290) and 3-meter boards (310) and secured a spot in the NCAA Zone 'A' Championships on March 14-16 at the University at Buffalo.
Junior Waresmith (Dover, Mass./Dover Sherborn) remained undefeated on both boards. She continued her dominance on both the 1- and 3-meter boards with 333.00 points and 317.36 points, respectively.

Binghamton
On Wednesday afternoon the Binghamton men's team swam past Lafayette 102-38 and Stony Brook 75-65. On the women's side, the Bearcats earned a split, taking down Stony Brook 81-59 and dropping a 93-47 decision to Lafayette. [Binghamton Story]
The Binghamton University swimming and diving squads split a dual meet against visiting St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon from the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center. The men's team swam past the Bonnies 165-135 to record its sixth consecutive dual meet win and improve to 6-4 on the season. On the women's side, the Bonnies took down the host Bearcats, 181-117. Boston University
The Boston University men's swimming and diving team defeated Dartmouth, 189.5-110.5, while the women's squad dropped a tight meet, 154-146, to the Big Green on Saturday afternoon at Karl Michael Pool. [Boston's Story]
The Boston University women's swimming and diving took hosted New Hampshire and Northeastern on Saturday afternoon at Competition Pool and earned eight first-place finishes - including three from junior Eve Kinsella. Maine
The University of Maine swimming and diving teams split a dual meet against the Providence College Friars Saturday afternoon. The women's team won 207-88, while the men were edged 154-140. [Maine's Story]
UMBC
The UMBC swimming and diving teams split their final home meet of the 2007-08 season against East Carolina on Senior/Alumni Day, Saturday afternoon at the UMBC Natatorium. The Retriever men (5-1) bested the Pirates (5-2) by a score of 179-119, while the Retriever women (3-4) fell to the Pirates (7-0) by a score of 168-130. [UMBC Story]
New Hampshire
The University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team had first place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay, the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes and the 50-yard freestyle but it was not enough as the Wildcats fell to Boston University, 158-141, and Northeastern, 175-124, this Saturday. Stony Brook
The Stony Brook men's swimming and diving team topped Lafayette College, 83-57, but lost to Binghamton University, 75-65, at Ruef Natatorium Wednesday night. On the women's side, Stony Brook lost to Lafayette College, 107-33, and dropped their meet against Binghamton, 81-59. [Stony Brook Story]
Vermont
The University of Vermont women’s swimming and diving team won its eighth straight meet on Sunday, defeating America East rival Binghamton 165-134 on the road. The Catamounts improve to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in conference action with the victory.
