BURLINGTON, Vt. - Former University of Vermont women's basketball
standout Katie McNamara (Essex Junction, Vt.) is returning to
professional basketball. She has signed a professional contract with Waterford
Wildcats in Waterford City, Ireland.
Waterford plays in the Superleague in Ireland and finished third in the
conference with a record of 13-5 last season. The 2007-08 season gets underway
on September 29th. McNamara will head over to Ireland on September 13.
McNamara spent the 2005-06 season playing for Tichinohosting-Riva Basket in
Switzerland, near Lugano. Since then she has been working at the Children's Hospital
in Boston.
McNamara, who graduated in 2005 with a degree in psychology, finished her
career at Vermont as the all-time leader in blocks (102). As a senior in
2004-05, she became the 16th Catamount to reach the 1,000-career point
