CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- New Hampshire's Michelle Sheehan (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) has been named America East Player of the Week, while Vermont's Gabby Bonfigli (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) collects America East Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Tuesday (Sept. 4).
Sheehan was named Offensive MVP and selected to the All-Tournament Team at the UVM TD Banknorth Classic. She led all scorers in the tournament with two goals. She scored a career-high two goals against Central Arkansas, including the game-winning tally, to lead the Wildcats to their first victory of the season. She is currently the league-leader in goals and points.
Bonfigli was named to the TD Banknkorth Classic All-Tournament Team. The freshman forward came off the bench to record an assist on the game-winning goal in Vermont’s win over Central Arkansas to record her first career points in her collegiate debut. She followed that with her first career goal in an overtime loss to George Washington, again coming off the bench to provide Vermont with some offense.

Binghamton Bearcats
Binghamton (0-1-0, 0-0-0 America East) opened up its 17-game schedule this past weekend at the Akron Westfield Cup... The Bearcats dropped a 1-0 double overtime decision in its season opener Friday against former America East foe Northeastern... Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Iman (Bel Air,
Md./Fallston) recorded five saves in her first career start for Binghamton... On Sunday evening, the Bearcats broke a 0-0 deadlock on a goal from senior Danielle White (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) in the 72nd minute, but host Akron netted the equalizer with only 1:32 left in regulation time as the two teams played to a 1-1 draw... White's goal broke a scoreless streak of over 185 minutes for the Bearcats... White, along with freshman Mandi Casares (Rathway, N.J./Rathway) and senior Erica Eddy (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) were all named to the 2007 Westfield Insurance Cup All-Tournament Team... For the second straight season, Binghamton has gone to overtime in its first two games... The Bearcats next compete this weekend at the Niagara Falls Classic against Buffalo and host Niagara University.
Boston University Terriers
Boston University's (1-1-0, 0-0-0 America East) Emily Pallotta (Andover, Mass./Andover) tallied in the fifth-minute gave the Terriers their first victory of the season as the Boston U. handed Princeton a 1-0 loss on the final day of the Doubletree Guest Suites Boston Terrier Invitational... Red-shirt freshman Janie Reilly (Coral Springs, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) got her first collegiate start in net, recording three saves for the shutout... Pallotta gave the Terriers the early lead with a goal at 4:28... Freshman Lina Cords (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) took the restart on the far left side and lobbed it into the box where an on-running Pallotta chipped it over Princeton goalkeeper Maren Dale for her first goal of the season... On Friday, the Terriers opened their season with a 2-0 loss to No. 9 Stanford (1-0-0) at Nickerson Field... In the opening day of the invitational, the Cardinal scored a goal in each half en route to their season-opening win... Senior goalkeeper Christina Reuter played a solid game for the Terriers, recording eight saves, including numerous breakaway stops.
Hartford Hawks
Hartford (0-0-2, 0-0-0 America East) opened the 2007 season with a pair of ties at the 2007 adidas/Hartford Fall Classic... The Hawks opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Harvard in which freshman Michelle Orelli (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) scored a goal in her collegiate debut... Hartford then played to a 2-2 stalemate against Rider on Sunday thanks to goals by senior Meagan Riemer (Ellington, Conn./Ellington) and junior Kacey Busque (Manchester, Conn./Manchester)... Both Orelli and Riemer each finished with a goal and an assist for the week and were named to the all-tournament team... The Hawks finished third at the adidas/Hartford Fall Classic as Rider took home the tournament title with a win and a tie... Hartford will look for its first win of the season at Cornell University on Friday, September 7 at 6 p.m.
Maine Black Bears
Maine (0-1-1, 0-0-0 America East) opened its 2007 regular season this past weekend with a loss to Massachusetts and a 1-1 tie versus Rhode Island... Junior goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips (Nepean, Ontario/John McCrae H.S.) made 14 saves during the weekend and ran her streak to 22 games by allowing just one goal or less... For the weekend, she posted an .875 save percentage... Phillips was outstanding in Sunday’s tie versus Rhode Island as she made 10 saves... Hailey Blackburn (York, Maine/York H.S.) scored the game equalizer with 1:25 remaining in the contest to knot the score at 1-1 against the Rams ... Christine LaBelle (Nepean, Ontario/Mother Teresa) and Laura Harper (Nepean, Ontario/Mother Teresa) each had three shots in the contest... Kim Stephenson (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) assisted on Blackburn’s goal... Maine returns to action this weekend with a Friday contest versus VCU at 4 p.m., and a Sunday tilt against William & Mary at 3 p.m.... Both contests will take place in Williamsburg, Va.
UMBC Retrievers
UMBC (0-2-0, 0-0-0 America East) dropped its first two games of the season to extend its school-record losing streak to nine games dating to Oct. 1, 2006, and opens the season 0-2 for the first time since 2003... The Retrievers lost to cross-town rival Towson, 5-1, in the season opener on Aug. 31... The Tigers took a 4-0 lead before freshman forward Sandra Vacarino (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) scored the first goal of her career in the 78th minute... Senior forward Jessica Young (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) was credited with an assist on the play... Young currently ranks seventh all-time at UMBC with 53 career points and is tied for fifth with 23 career goals... The Retrievers dominated Elon on Sept. 2, holding a 21-5 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks, but the Phoenix prevailed, 2-1, in overtime... Elon took a 1-0 lead shortly before halftime, scoring on its only shot of the period, but UMBC freshman forward Ashley Singer (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) tied the score in the 81st minute to send the game into overtime... The Phoenix found the back of the net just 1:19 into the extra period to win the game... The Retrievers hit the road for the first time this season for two games this week, taking on Drexel on Sept. 6 and Bucknell on Sept. 9.

Vermont Catamounts
Vermont (1-1-0, 0-0-0 America East) stands at 1-1 on the year... The Catamounts opened the 2007 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Central Arkansas in the first day of action at the TD Banknorth Classic... Junior Kaitlin Francis (Hinesburg, Vt/Champlain Valley Union) recorded her first career goal in the win... The victory was the first season opening win for Vermont since 2003... UVM dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to George Washington in the second day of the tournament...
