BOSTON - The 2007-08 Boston University
women's lacrosse and women's soccer teams kicked off the fall semester with the
annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Sunday, Sept. 23 at UMass-Boston. It
marked the fourth straight year the lacrosse team has run in the five-kilometer
race and first for the women's soccer team. Along with 6,000 other
participants, the Terriers helped to raise money in the fight against breast
cancer.
The Terriers helped in the effort to raise over $740,000 for breast cancer
research at this event. In addition to raising money to eradicate breast
cancer, the race also focuses on educating men and women on the value of early
detection, promoting health awareness and teaching lessons in cancer survival.
Numerous cancer survivors spoke to the crowds about their own personal battles
and triumphs as well as thanking the thousands of people for all for their hard
work and dedication.
