Viola Leads Trio of Women's Soccer Honorees

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Stony Brook goalkeeper Marisa Viola was named Player of the Week while Boston University goalkeeper Janie Reilly and Hartford forward Mary Beth Hamilton were selected Rookie of the Week. Click here for full release.

Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) made nine saves in holding Columbia scoreless in a 0-0 draw Friday. She has not allowed a goal in her last 251:47.

Reilly (Coral Springs, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) made 11 saves during the week as she went 1-0-1. She had six saves in a 1-0 win at Brown Wednesday and made five saves in a 1-1 draw with Minnesota Friday.

Hamilton (Columbia, Conn./Mercy) made her first collegiate goal a memorable one as she found the back of the net in the 100th minute in a 1-0 overtime win at Holy Cross Sunday.

Albany Great Danes
UAlbany (3-3-2) extended its unbeaten streak to five games last weekend before falling to No. 24 William and Mary 2-0 Wednesday (9/19)...UAlbany’s match against Delaware State on Sunday (9/23) was postponed... Freshman Teresa Boring (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) leads the team with five goals and one assist... Boring has taken a team-high 36 shots... Junior forward Diana Barrera (Wheaton, Md./Albert-Einstein) is second on the team in scoring with three goals and an assist... Sophomore Maria Liguori (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) has played all 782 minutes in goal for UAlbany this season, allowing 1.61 goals per game and has made 34 saves... The Great Danes next contest is Wednesday as they host cross-town rivals Siena at 4:00 p.m. at Varsity Field.

Binghamton Bearcats
Binghamton (0-6-2) recorded a loss and a tie in two games during the week... The team opened the $5 million Bearcats Sports Complex against Syracuse and drew a program-record 922 fans. Binghamton netted the game's first goal before suffering a heartbreaking defeat 41 seconds into overtime. Senior forward Kim Povill (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) notched the first goal in the facility on a header at the 38:13 mark. Senior defender Lorin Weidman (Clarksville, N.Y./Ravena-Selkirk) drew an assist on the play. But the Orange tied the score early in the second half and quieted the crowd with the game-winner in the first extra session... Binghamton continued its three-game homestand by hosting LIU on Saturday and despite posting its first shutout of the season, couldn't tally a goal and had to settle for the scoreless tie. The Bearcats have produced just one goal in its last 375 minutes of action... After hosting New Jersey Institute of Technology on Tuesday, Binghamton will wipe the slate clean and open conference play Sunday at New Hampshire.

Boston UniversityTerriers
Boston University (3-4-1) fought back from a one-goal deficit to earn a 1-1 draw with Big Ten opponent Minnesota on Friday evening at Nickerson Field... Sophomore Farrell McClernon (West Chester, Pa./Merion Mercy) netted the game-tying goal in the 72nd minute... After finding itself in an early deficit when the Golden Gophers struck on a corner kick 10 minutes into the match, McClernon knotted the score at one at 71:05 on a feed from red-shirt freshman Shauna Kelleher (Canton, Mass./Fontbonne).... Kelleher sent it into the box, where McClernon collected the pass and on a side volley sent it into the back of the net... It was McClernon's second goal of the season and Kelleher's first collegiate point... On Wednesday, the Terriers were backed by Mara Osher's (Rockville, Md./Stone Ridge) goal in the 47th minute as they earned the 1-0 triumph over Brown in Providence, R.I... Red-shirt freshman Janie Reilly (Coral Springs, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) turned away 11 shots over the two games and recorded a 0.45 goals against average... Reilly is now 3-1-1 on the season... The Terriers travel to Yale on Sept. 25 for a 7:00 p.m. contest.

Hartford Hawks
Hartford (2-3-2) picked up a pair of wins last week, beating Army 1-0 at home on Friday before pulling out a 1-0 overtime victory at Holy Cross on Sunday... Sophomore Laura Guigli (North Stonington, Conn./Wheeler) netted the game winner against Army late in the first half, her first goal of the season. Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Cook (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Halifax Grammar) made two saves for her first shutout of the season... Cook added her second clean sheet at Holy Cross, making six stops for the game. Freshman Mary Beth Hamilton (Columbia, Conn./Mercy) gave the Hawks the victory with 36 seconds remaining in the first overtime, scoring her first collegiate goal on a deflection from five yards out... Hartford will play two games next week, beginning with a road contest at Colgate on Friday, September 28 at 7 p.m. The Hawks wrap up the week by hosting Central Connecticut State University on Sunday, September 30 at 2 p.m.

Maine Black Bears
Maine (2-3-2) ran its unbeaten streak to three games (1-0-1) with a 5-0 victory over Holy Cross on Friday at Alumni Field in Orono ... The game marked the home opener in the 2007 season for the Black Bears ... Sophomore forward Laura Martel (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston H.S.) scored a pair of goals on a game-high six shots for Maine ... It marked the first goals for her this season ... Also scoring a goal each for Maine was Anjelica Hodgson (Nepean, Ontario/John McCrae H.S.), Christine LaBelle (Nepean, Ontario/Mother Teresa H.S.) and Cari Gill (Anchorage, Alaska/West H.S.) ... Maine outshot Holy Cross 29-5 in the contest ... Jasmine Phillips (Nepean, Ontario/Merivale H.S.) got the win in goal for Maine ... She pitched her third-straight shutout and has allowed a goal or less in 26-of-27 contests dating back to the beginning of last season ... Phillips has allowed a goal in her last four games ... Kim Stephenson (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy H.S.) had an assist and three shots in the contest for the Black Bears ... Maine’s last eight home wins have come via shutouts, as the streak dates back to the 2005 season ... The Black Bears return to action with a pair of games this week ... Maine travels to face Brown on Tuesday at 7 p.m., and then opens conference play on Sunday at Albany at 12 p.m.

UMBC Retrievers
UMBC (1-6-2) went 0-1-1 last week, tying Sacred Heart, 1-1 in double overtime on Sept. 21 before falling to Army, 1-0, on Sept. 23... Down 1-0 to the Pioneers for most of the game, the Retrievers tied the score when freshman forward Ashley Singer (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) notched her team-leading third goal of the season... The loss to the Black Knights marked the first time UMBC has been shut out this season... Nine of the Retrievers’ 10 goals and 20 of their 27 points this season have been scored by freshmen... Senior forward Jessica Young (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) is the lone upperclassmen with a goal this year... Young ranks fifth all-time at UMBC with 24 career goals, and she is tied for sixth with 55 career points... The Retrievers conclude their five-game road trip this week as they open America East Conference play at Stony Brook on Sept. 30.

New Hampshire Wildcats
New Hampshire (4-3-1) went 0-2-0 last week, getting shut out by Rhode Island (3-0) and Harvard (1-0) ... The losses snapped the Wildcats’ five-game unbeaten streak ... UNH began the week ranked ninth in the SoccerBuzz Northeast regional poll. And 10th in the NSCAA/Adidas Northeast regional Poll ... Goalkeeper Nikki Golding (Milton, Mass.) suffered her first loss of the season when she stopped four of the five shots she faced against Harvard ... Ally Yost (Langhorne, Pa.) made three saves for the Wildcats versus Rhode Island.

Stony Brook Seawolves
Stony Brook (3-2-2) played just one game last week, In its second consecutive double overtime scoreless tie, Stony Brook hit either the post or crossbar four times in the second half at Columbia. The 0-0 tie against the Lions featured 22 shots taken by both teams but no goals. Marisa Viola has been spectacular the last few games, not allowing a goal in the last 251:47. Stony Brook concludes non-conference play on Wednesday night against Manhattan at home before opening up conference play against UMBC at home.

Vermont Catamounts
Vermont (1-7-1) is looking to snap a eight-game winless streak when the Catamounts open up America East action at Boston U on Sunday (Sept. 30) ... Freshman forward Jessica Becker (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional) has been a bright spot for UVM scoring three goals in the last for games ... Becker leads the team in scoring with six points and her three goals is the team-high ... The Catamounts continue on in their nine-game road swing which will finally end on October 4 at Binghamton ... Vermont will return home for the first time in over a month on October 7 to host Stony Brook.
