Belliveau, Englehutt Lead Maine to Strong Showing in Season Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--University of Maine's Jessica Belliveau received the America East Cross Country Women's Performer of the Week honors for the week ending September 16th, as she led the Black Bears to their first team title in their season opener. David Englehutt, a fellow Black Bear was named America East Cross Country Men's Performer of the Week for his strong showing in the UMass Invitational.

Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick/Kennebecasis H.S.) had an outstanding start to the season as she won the women's individual race at the UMass Invite in a time of 17:39. Her first-place performance helped Maine win the women's team event with a score of 35 points.

Englehutt (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia/Prince Andrew H.S.) was Maine's highest finisher with a sixth-place performance this past Saturday at the UMass Invite in Amherst, Mass. He finished sixth with a time of 25:14 leading his team to a solid second place finish.

Albany
The Great Danes did not run this past weekend, but will continue competition on Saturday, September 22nd at the Iona Meet of Champions beginning at 10:15 a.m.

Binghamton
The Bearcats were not in action last week. They can be seen next at the Paul Short Run being held at Lehigh University on Friday, September 28 at 2:00pm.

Boston University
Boston University cross country runners took first-place in the men's and women's races on Saturday at the Ted Owens Invitational at Central Connecticut College. Senior Andrea Walkonen (17:06) and sophomore Eric Ashe (25:42) crossed first in their respective races, with Terrier teammates following close behind. However, the men's side finished third in overall scoring and the women's team placed fourth. [Boston Story]

Hartford

The Seawolves will return to action on Friday, September 21st, for the Quinnipiac Invitational in Hamden, CT beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Maine
The University of Maine men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons on Saturday at the Massachusetts Invite in Amherst, Mass. The women's team enjoyed a tremendous day as they won the three-team event with a score of 35. The men finished a solid second in their five-team meet with 63 points. [Maine Story]

UMBC
The men’s and women’s cross country teams both placed eighth at the Navy Invitational on Saturday in Annapolis, Md. [UMBC Story]

New Hampshire
A tightly-packed group of seven University of New Hampshire women’s cross country runners, led by Lindsey Jeltes (Oakland, N.J.) in 12th place overall, amassed 90 points to place third in the 14-team Ted Owens Cross Country Meet that was hosted by Central Connecticut State University at Stanley Quarter Park. Stony Brook
Stony Brook's cross country teams ventured away from campus for the first time this season, taking part in the Boston College Invitational on Friday afternoon. On the men's side the Seawolves placed four runners in the top-15 to place fourth out of nine teams, just six points behind host Boston College. The SBU women's team finished sixth at the event. Vermont
Sophomore Doug Maisey (Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) led the Vermont men’s cross country team and senior Carmen Lagala (Montpelier, Vt.) was the leader for the women’s squad at the UMass Invitational in Amherst, Massachusetts on Saturday. Vermont finished third out of three teams in the overall team competition, while the men were fifth out of five teams. [Vermont Story]
