Maine goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips was named America East Women's Soccer Player of the Week while Albany midfielder Teresa Boring was chosen Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week. Click here for full release
Phillips posted a pair of shutouts as Maine was 1-0-1 in the Buffalo Fall Soccer Tournament. She had nine saves, including five in the second half and one in each of the overtimes as the Black Bears played to a scoreless draw with St. John’s, ranked third in the NSCAA Northeast Region. Phillips also had three saves, including the stop of a penalty kick, in a 3-0 win over Buffalo Friday. Phillips has allowed one goal or fewer in 25 of 26 games dating back to last season.
Boring scored each of Albany’s four goals in a pair of wins at the Penguin Classic in Youngstown, Ohio. She scored the only goal of the first half vs. host Youngstown State on Friday, and then after an extended halftime due to lightning, she struck the game-winner 57 seconds into the second half. Two days later, Boring scored in the 48th minute and then headed home the game-winner in the 72nd minute of a 2-1 win over Indiana State to extend the Great Danes’ unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2).

Albany Great Danes
UAlbany (3-2-2) extended its unbeaten streak to five games this weekend... The Great Danes defeated Youngstown State 2-1 in the first round of the Penguin Classic and went on to win the tournament with a 2-1 decision over Indiana State... UAlbany is off to their best start since the 1994 season... Freshman Teresa Boring (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) tallied all four UAlbany goals over the two-game stretch... Boring recorded her first two multi-goal games in back-to-back contests... She was credited with the game-winning goals in both matches... Boring converted a penalty shot and finished an unassisted goal in the 2-1 win over Youngstown State ...Boring now leads the team with five goals and one assist... Freshman midfielder Caitlin Mulligan recorded both assists in the 2-1 win over Indiana State... She found Boring off of a corner kick in the 72nd minute to deliver the game-winning assist... Sophomore keeper Maria Liguori earned both wins in net for the Great Danes... Liguori has played all 692 minutes in goal for UAlbany this season... The Great Danes will travel to William and Mary on Sept. 19 for a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m. and will return home to host Delaware State on Sept. 23 at 1:00 p.m.
Binghamton Bearcats
Binghamton (0-5-1) is scheduled to open its new Bearcats Sports Complex on Tuesday night when the Bearcats play host to Syracuse at 7 p.m. The $3.6 million project will be the home for men's and women's soccer and lacrosse teams. The complex is located to the right of the Binghamton Events Center... The Bearcat Sports Complex includes a pair of synthetic turf field, one for games and one designed for practices. Both fields will be 120x75 in length. The seating capacity at the playing field will will 2,534 while the practice field will have seating for 1,000. Both field will have lighting designed for night games and practices. The game field will have a press box and there will be a concession building with restrooms between the two fields.
Boston University Terriers
Boston University (2-4-1) battled Harvard into two overtimes, but dropped a 1-0 decision 30 seconds into the last period... Harvard scored the golden goal 30 seconds into the second overtime when Gina Wideroff nailed home a shot into the upper corner of the net off a feed from Christina Hagner... Senior Christina Reuter (Madison, Wis.) made eight saves in the effort, including two spectacular stops in regulation... Two days earlier, the Terriers faced off with one of their oldest and most storied rivals as they traveled to No. 8 Boston College on Wednesday... In Newton, Mass., BU fell by a slim 1-0 margin... The Eagles scored the game winner with 13 minutes left in the first half and held off the Terriers' offensive pressure for the remainder of the game.
Hartford Hawks
Hartford (0-3-2 overall) dropped games at Providence and Massachusetts last week. The Hawks fell 1-0 to the Friars on Friday before suffering a 4-0 setback at UMass on Sunday. Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Cook (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Halifax Grammar) made a season-high 12 saves against the Minutewomen in the loss... The Hawks, who are still looking for their first win of the season, have not scored a goal in their last 309 minutes of play... Hartford will host Army on Friday before playing at Holy Cross on Sunday.
Maine Black Bears
Maine (1-3-2, 0-0 America East) went 1-0-1 this weekend at the Buffalo Fall Soccer Tournament in Buffalo, N.Y. ... On Friday night, Maine picked up its first win of the season with a 3-0 triumph over host-school and MAC-foe Buffalo ... On Sunday, Maine battled Big East-foe St. John’s to a scoreless tie ... Versus Buffalo, goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips (Nepean, Ontario/Merivale H.S.) made three saves ? all in the second period ? including one on a penalty kick ... The Black Bears got goals from Hailey Blackburn (York, Maine/York H.S.), Laura Harper (Nepean, Ontario/Mother Teresa H.S.) and Kelsey Wilson (Gorham, Maine/Gorham H.S.) to earn the win ... It was Maine’s highest goal total since the Black Bears scored three in a 3-0 victory at UMBC on Oct. 22, 2006 ... Versus St. John’s, Phillips made nine saves, including five in the second period and one in each of the overtimes ... She has allowed just one goal in her last three contests and a total of just five in six games this season ... Dating back to last season, Phillips has allowed a goal or less in 25 of her last 26 contests ... Maine returns to action with just one contest this week ... However, the game will mark the home opener for the Black Bears as they play host to Holy Cross at 3 p.m., at Alumni Field in Orono.
UMBC Retrievers
UMBC (1-5-1) went 1-1-1 last week... The Retrievers broke a school-record 11 game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Howard on Sept. 12... Freshman midfielder Caitlyn Slattery (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) came off the bench to score the first two goals of her career, and classmate Sandra Vacarino (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) added her second tally of the season in UMBC’s first victory since defeating Howard, 4-0, on Sept. 27, 2006... The three goals are the most the Retrievers have scored since that same game... UMBC played Richmond to a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Sept. 15... The Retrievers took an early lead when freshman forward Ashley Singer (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) scored her second goal of the season in the 13th minute... Junior goalie Catie Bukowski (Odenton, Md./Arundel/South Carolina) made a season-high seven saves... In their third game of the week, the Retrievers fell to N.C. State, 3-1, on Sept. 16... Playing its second game in as many days, UMBC fell behind 3-0 before freshman Morgan Warrington (Magnolia, Del./St. Thomas Moore Prep) notched her first career goal in the 83rd minute... Eight of the Retrievers’ nine goals this season have been scored by freshmen, including a team-leading two each by Slattery, Vacarino and Singer... Senior forward Jessica Young (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) is the lone upperclassmen to score this year... New Hampshire Wildcats
New Hampshire (4-1-1) went 1-1 last week, extending its unbeaten streak to five games by shutting out Brown, 2-0, and salvaging a 1-1 tie with Northeastern ... UNH started the week ranked No. 10 in the NSCAA/Adidas Regional Poll for the NCAA Division I Northeast Region for the first time since Oct. 17, 2006 ... Last week’s America East Player of the Week Caitlin Whelan (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) tallied three points when she recorded an assist in the Wildcats’ win against Brown, and scored the game-tying goal against Northeastern to help the ?Cats steal a tie against her former team ... Whelan leads the conference in points (12) and is tied with her teammate Michelle Sheehan (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) for the conference lead in goals (5) ... Junior midfielder Sara Hourihan record her first points of the season when she gave UNH its insurance goal versus Brown ... Sheehan scored the game-winner against Brown ... Amy Avitable (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) recorded her first collegiate point and Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) tied for the conference lead in assists when each tallied a helper against Brown ... Ally Yost (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) made four saves against Brown to post her second shutout of the season.
Stony Brook Seawolves
Stony Brook (3-2-1, 0-0-0) went 1-0-1 in games last week. Its first game which was postponed against Army will be made up on October 2nd. Stony Brook traveled to Fordham on Friday night and beat the Rams, 2-1 in overtime. Morgan Sims (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) scored the game winning goal in the 94th minute. Kate Collins (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) also added a tally. In a double-overtime scoreless tie against East Carolina, Brooke Barbuto (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) had a free kick at the top of the box in double overtime but was unable to convert. Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) made six saves in preserving the shutout. Stony Brook has just one game next week, a matchup at Columbia.
Vermont Catamounts
Vermont (1-4-1) dropped a 2-0 decision to St. John’s, a team that is receiving votes in the NSCAA Poll, in the first round of the UB Fall Classic ... UVM also suffered a 2-1 loss to Buffalo in the second day of the tournament ... Buffalo scored two early goals in the first half, the Catamounts rallied in the second half, but couldn’t complete the comeback ... Freshman Jessica Becker (Woodbridge, Conn.) scored her first career goal against Buffalo ... All four of Vermont’s goal scorers have recorded their first career goals this season ... Vermont is in the middle of a nine-game road game swing and will play three games in five days ... UVM travels to Siena on Wednesday (Sept. 19) at 3:00pm and will also be at Colgate on Friday (Sept. 21) and closes out the week at UMass on Sunday (Sept. 23).
