CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- New Hampshire's Caitlin Whelan (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) becomes the second-straight Wildcat to earn America East Player of the Week, while Albany's Teresa Boring (Plainfield, Ill./ Plainfield) collects America East Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday (Sept. 10).
Whelan matched her career-high in goals in back-to-back games last week. She tallied two against Holy Cross to power the Wildcats past the Crusaders, 5-0, and again scored a pair versus Iona to lead the ?Cats to their third victory in a row. Whelan also had an assist on Michelle Sheehan’s game-winning goal versus Holy Cross. All of Whelan’s goals (4) and assists (1) on the season came in the last week, giving her nine points on the year.
Boring tallied her first career point in the 2-1 overtime win at NJIT, recording an assist on the game-winning goal. She followed that up by scoring her first collegiate goal two days later at Marist in the 2-2 tie. The freshman forward has started all five games for UAlbany and leads the team in shots with 20.
