CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Binghamton's Adam Chavez (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) and UMBC's Steve King (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) earn America East Co-Players of the Week, while Boston University's Daniel Chu (Irvine, Calif./University) has been named America East Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday (Sept. 10).

Chavez was the anchor of a Binghamton backfield which recorded a pair of 1-0 shutouts at the Pittsburgh Invitational Tournament. He was named to the all-tournament team Chavez was instrumental in the Bearcats surrendering just seven shots on goal during the weekend. The Bearcats have yet to allow a goal this season and at 4-0, are off to their best start since 1987.

King notched his second and third shutouts of the season in UMBC’s 0-0 double-overtime tie against St. Francis (N.Y.) and a 1-0 win over Iona. The junior goalkeeper allowed only one goal to date this season and has a scoreless streak of 339 consecutive minutes. King has played 3,134 consecutive minutes in the UMBC cage and his 123 saves are tenth in school history.

Chu scored two goals in Boston University’s 4-0 win over Fordham on Friday, Sept. 9. The tallies were the first of his young career. The freshman midfielder with tied with Petur Sigurdsson for the team-lead in goals for the season and ranks second in points.

Albany Great Danes
UAlbany (1-3-0, 0-0-0 America East) lost two games at the Raiders Adidas Fall Classic in Hamilton, N.Y... The losses extend the Great Danes losing streak to three games... The Great Danes lost the Classic’s first game 3-2 in overtime to Cornell on Sept. 7... The Big Red took a 1-0 lead just over 15 minutes into the game, before UAlbany freshman forward Shaun Kane (Stirlingshire, Scotland/St. Modans) scored his second goal of the season in the 36th minute to knot the score at one... Sophomore Kenneth Ibe (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Far Rockaway) was credited with his first career assist on the play... Ibe knotted the score at two in the 54th minute for the Great Danes on his first career goal on an assist from junior Mikael-Taylor McNamara (Mississauga, Ontario/Iona Secondary)... Cornell scored on a breakaway in the fourth minute of the second overtime period to get the win... The Great Danes were defeated by Colgate 3-1 on Sept. 9... UAlbany took a 1-0 lead 38 seconds into the game on a goal by Joe Hogan (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal)... Don Johnson (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) picked up the assist on the goal... The Raiders tallied goals in the 18th and 28th minute to take a 2-1 lead into intermission... Colgate added a goal off a corner kick in the 71st minute to deliver the 3-1 final score... The Great Danes play their home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 12 against Syracuse, before going on the road for two games at the Green Bay Nike Classic in Green Bay, Wis., taking on host Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sept. 15 and Denver on Sept. 16.

Binghamton Bearcats
Binghamton (4-0-0, 0-0-0 America East) is off to its best start since 1987... The Bearcats have also shut out their first four opponents since that same season two decades ago... Binghamton has been receiving votes in the College Soccer News Top 30 poll the past two weeks... senior backs Adam Chavez (Endicott,
N.Y./Union-Endicott) and J.P. Ahoua (New York City, New York/Borough of Manhattan), junior back Liam Carson (Broxburn, Scotland/Montagu Secondary) and sophomore goalkeeper Jason Stenta (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) were named to the Pittsburgh Invitational Tournament All-Star Team this past weekend as the Bearcats won their second consecutive in-season tournament. The last time that the Bearcats won back-to-back tournament came in 2004.

Boston University Terriers
Boston University (2-2-0, 0-0-0 America East) split games and finished third in the 2007 adidas-Brown Soccer Classic over the weekend... Boston U. defeated Fordham 4-0 in the first game on Friday and lost to No. 5 Santa Clara, 3-0, on Sunday... America East Rookie of the Week Daniel Chu (Irvine, Calif./University HS) notched his first two career goals in the win over the Rams... Sophomores Samuel Appiah (Obuasi, Ghana) and Tom Strackhouse (Flemington, N.J./Pingry School) each scored goals for BU... In the loss to the Broncos, fouls proved costly as each of SCU’s three goals came after Boston U. fouls... Appiah and junior Neil Hlavaty (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) were each named to the all-tournament team... Junior Petur Sigurdsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) leads Boston U. with two goals and one assist for five points... Sophomore Hrafn Davidsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) is the goalkeeper of record, with a 2-2-0 mark, a 1.03 GAA and an .846 save percentage... The Terriers return to action on Friday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. when they takes on Harvard in Cambridge, Mass.

Hartford Hawks
Hartford (2-0-1, 0-0-0 America East) remains undefeated on the season posting a 2-2 tie at Marist and a 3-0 victory in the home opener over St. Peter’s College on Friday night... The Hawks opened the weekend at Marist taking the early lead in the 12th minute when Andrea Blamo (Monrovia, Liberia/Hall) scored his first of three goals on the week unassisted off the post from inside 18-yards... After Marist tied the score in the 18th minute the Hawks retook the lead when Kevin Hall (Portland, OR/Lake Oswego) scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Jamie Thomas (Edinburgh, Scotland)... Marist would come back to tie the score in the 72nd minute, with neither team connecting in either overtime... The Hawks then hosted the St. Peter’s Peacocks on Friday night in the home opener at Al-Marzook Field... After playing a scoreless first half, the Hawks put the first notch on the board in the 48th minute when Blamo connected with Hall for a header, scoring the game-winning goal... The Hawks wouldn’t score again until the 89th and 90th minute when they added some insurance goals to their tally... Blamo provided the first, unassisted, on a break away from the left side of the goal. Gary Muir (Glasgow, Scotland/Louisburg JC) connected with Daniel Antunez (Flint, TX/Santa Ana) 23 seconds later when they had a two-on-one advantage. Antunez sent the rock across the box where Muir was wide open for the shot to the left corner of the net... The Hawks will play one game this week, when they travel to James Madison on Friday night for a 7:00 p.m. match-up.

Maine Black Bears
Maine (1-3-0, 0-0-0 America East) dropped all three of its games on the week... Maine's first three games this season were all one goal games... The Black Bears opened the week with a 1-0 loss to Holy Cross in Falmouth, Maine on Wednesday night... In that game, keeper Nemanja Kostic (New Belgrade, Serbia/Virginia Intermont College) made five saves... Maine turned in an strong performance against 13th ranked Harvard on Friday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Crimson... Harvard scored the lone goal at 66:40 to earn the win... Again, Kostic made four saves for the Black Bears... Maine has used 20 different players this season... On Sunday, Maine fell to Northeastern... Both teams had eight shots in the second half and Maine held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks on the game... The Black Bears play just one game next week... Maine travels to Providence, R.I. on Thursday for a 3 pm game with the Brown Bears... Maine is in a stretch where it will play six straight games away from Orono... Four of the game will be played on the road, sandwiched between a pair of neutral site games in Yarmouth, Maine.

UMBC Retrievers
UMBC's (3-0-1, 0-0-0 America East) Andrew Gillis (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) scored the game’s lone goal in the 34th minute and the resurgent UMBC defense held in the second half as the Retrievers posted a 1-0 win over Iona (1-3) in the final game of the 2007 adidas Kick Off Classic... the Retrievers are unbeaten through four games for the first time since the 1999... in that campaign, UMBC (19-1-2) did not lose until an NCAA Tournament game at Duke... St. Francis (N.Y.) won the tournament title as they defeated Navy (2-1-1), 3-1, in the opener of today’s action...the Terriers and Retrievers both were 1-0-1 in weekend play, but St. Francis had a +2 goal differential compared to +1 for UMBC... those two teams played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Friday... after playing all 17 games and not posting a single shutout last season, America East Co-Player of the Week junior netminder Steve King (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) now has three straight and the Retriever defense has not allowed a goal for the last 339 minutes of action... King was challenged in both games, recording five saves in each, including a lunging save of a Terrier shot in the 87th minute to preserve a tie in regulation... has played 3,134 consecutive minutes in the UMBC cage and his 123 saves are tenth in school history... King, defenders Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) Philippe Bissohong (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) and junior midfielder Shondell Busby (Toronto, Ont./Dante Aligery/Francis Marion) were named to the All Tournament team...the last 0-0 overtime tie that UMBC played was a game vs. Navy in October of 2005... the Retrievers will host VCU on Saturday in their lone action of the week.

New Hampshire Wildcats
University of New Hampshire (1-2-1, 0-0-0 America East) split a pair of games at the Smith Barney Classic in Burlington, Vt... Senior back Mike Davis (Tigard, Ore.), who tallied a goal and an assist in the weekend, was named the Classic’s Defensive MVP... Davis, along with junior midfielders Scott Rowling (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) and Dan Cripe (Raymond, N.H./Raymond) were selected to the All-Classic team... On Friday the Wildcats fell to Michigan State, 2-1... Davis recorded his first collegiate goal to even the score 1-1... The game remained tied until the 50th minute when Spartans went on top (2-1) for good... Senior Mike Jenne (Vernon, N.Y./Whitesboro Central) made a career-high six saves in the game... The Wildcats garnered its first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over Massachusetts on Sunday... UNH took an early lead with a goal from Kyle Urso (Lombard, Ill.) at 8:44... Cripe earned the assist on the goal... The Wildcats tallied on another the 67th minute, when junior midfielder Scott Rowling connected from 15-yards out... Mike McKee (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and Davis showed nice passing on the play, earning assists... Freshman Colin O’Donnell (Springfield, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) recorded four saves in his first career start, earning the shutout for the Wildcats... UNH host the Nike Fall Classic this weekend at Lewis Field... Following the Vermont-Sacred Heart game Friday at 2:00pm, UNH takes on Central Connecticut at 5 p.m. in its home opener... Sunday, UVM faces CCSU at 12:30 p.m. and UNH hosts the Sacred Heart at 3 p.m.

Stony Brook Seawolves
Stony Brook (1-2-0, 0-0-0 America East) went 1-0 last week... Against Long Island-rival Hofstra, the Seawolves picked up their first win of the season, 3-1... In the 2007 home opener, Michael Palacio (Long Beach, N.Y.) opened up the scoring, taking a pass from James Palumbo (Carmel, N.Y.) and scoring the Seawolves first goal of the season in the 39th minute... Collin Geoghegan (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) would add a tally 4:30 minutes later when he headed in a corner from Palacio... The duo of Geoghegan and Palacio would team-up again in the second half on a corner/header... Stony Brook's next three opponents are all from the state of New York against Columbia, Adelphi and Niagara.

Vermont Catamounts
Vermont (1-3-0, 0-0-0 America East) dropped a pair of hard-fought contests in overtime in the 2007 Smith Barney Nike Soccer Classic at Centennial Field over the weekend... Vermont lost to Massachusetts Friday and Michigan State Sunday, both 2-1 decisions... Panos Georgiadis (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples Academy), Connor Tobin (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) and Rem Kielman (Hinesburg, Vt./Champlain Valley) were named to the Smith Barney Nike Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team. Georgiadis and Kielman led an inspired effort against the Big Ten Spartans Sunday both creating several scoring chances from the midfield... Tobin was exceptional defensively in both games... Junior back Will Haywood (Newton, Mass./Newton North) knocked home his first career goal in the second half of Sunday’s game against Michigan State... Junior forward Lee Stephane Kouadio (Woodlyn, Pa./Ridley) used a great individual effort to force overtime late in the second half against UMass Friday scoring his first goal of the season... Gary Cole (Littleton, Colo./Araphoe), Vermont’s lone freshman starter in the first four games, has been steady at back in his collegiate debut... The Catamounts host 11th-ranked Harvard, the defending Ivy League Champion, at Centennial Field Tuesday at 4 p.m... Next weekend, Vermont looks to defend its three straight team titles at New Hampshire’s Nike Fall Soccer Classic in Durham, N.H. UVM takes on Sacred Heart Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Central Connecticut Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
