BOSTON ? Junior Marisha Schumacher-Hodge of the Boston University women’s soccer team has been named to the 2007 Women’s Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Wednesday. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in intercollegiate soccer.
Schumacher-Hodge had an impressive sophomore campaign, which culminated with the 2006 America East Midfielder of the Year distinction. In 2006, Schumacher-Hodge recorded three goals and four assists and was crucial to all of the Terriers’ set plays, particularly in corner kick situations, where she took most of their attempts. In the postseason she earned a spot on the NSCAA All-Northeast Region Second Team, while also receiving second-team regional recognition from Soccer Buzz. She was also selected to the America East All-Conference First Team.
“Marisha is a tremendous player and is the engine that can make our team go,” said head coach Nancy Feldman. “She brings a combination of skill and technique, possesses a great tactical sense as well as having physical attributes of strength, quickness and agility that make her a special player. As a sophomore, she earned the Conference Midfielder of the Year Award, which is an indication of the respect she has earned from her opponents in the short time she has been wearing a Terrier uniform.”
Schumacher-Hodge is one of 45 student-athletes to be named to the esteemed list. Players are selected to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List by a committee of Division I coaches who are NSCAA members. In November, the list will be narrowed to 15 semifinalists. Three finalists will be named in early December in conjunction with the NCAA Division I College Cup and will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008. The winner of the 2007 award will be announced during a nationally-televised news conference that evening.
