VESTAL, N.Y.-- Senior Rory Quiller (West Point, N.Y.), who will compete in the pole vault at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships later this week, has been named the U.S. Track & Field Association (USTFA) Northeast Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year. The voting was done by the USTFA College Coaches Association.

Two weekends ago, Quiller broke the NCAA East Regional pole vault record with a height of 18-1. He was 13th at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championonship, which was also held in Sacremento, with a jump of 16-11.

Quiller heads to Cal-State Sacramento this week to compete in the pole vault for the second straight season. The preliminary round, which includes all 26 participants, begins on Wednesday at 3 p.m. PST (6 p.m. local time). The finals, which includes the top 12-14 performers in the preliminary round, will start on Friday at 3 p.m. PST.

Back in March, Quiller finished second at the NCAA Indoor Championship and earned All-America honors with his previous lifetime-best jump of 18-0 1/2. Should he finish among the top eight this coming week, he will become the first Binghamton Division I athlete to earn multiple All-America honors in the same academic year.
