Albany's Kelly Ogden (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) and Boston University's Chiya Louie (Seattle, Wash./Ingraham) have been named America East Co-Players of the Week. Fellow Great Dane Leah McIntosh (Whitby Ontario/Sinclair) collects America East Pitcher and Rookie of the Week accolades. The awards were announced Monday (May 7).
Ogden led UAlbany to a 4-1 record last week, batting .625 with 10 hits, six runs scored and five RBI. The senior third baseman recorded three doubles, one triple and one home run, while also going 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts. Ogden went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBI, a triple and a homer in the Great Danes’ 8-1 win over crosstown-rival Siena on Tuesday. She went 3-for-4, scoring two runs and driving in one more in the nightcap of that doubleheader. Ogden finished 2-for-2 with two RBI in a 3-0 win over Hartford in the first game of a conference doubleheader on Saturday and had a double and a stolen base on Senior Day on Sunday.
Louie broke the single-season and career home run records during the final week of the regular season. The senior outfielder started with a two-out homer in game one against Boston College to tie the single-season record then blasted her second homer of the day to break the record. On Sunday, Louie broke the career home run record with a two-run homer in the second inning. It was the 32nd of her career. Over the five-game week, Louie hit .538 with seven hits, seven runs, three home runs and seven RBI.
McIntosh posted a 0.47 ERA in four appearances last week. The freshman right-hander allowed just five hits and one earned run in 15.0 innings of work, striking out 29 and holding opponents to a .100 average. She earned a win in her only start of the week, a 3-0 win over Stony Brook on Saturday. McIntosh tossed a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 12 and issuing no walks in a seven-inning performance. She also saw time in relief in three other games, striking out six in three innings of work in an 11-4 win over Siena and finishing up the week with seven strikeouts in three innings in the series finale against Stony Brook.

Albany Great Danes
UAlbany (30-15, 11-9 America East) swept crosstown-rival Siena in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday before hosting Stony Brook in an America East Conference series over the weekend... The Great Danes took 2-of-3 from the Seawolves to secure a spot in the America East Conference Tournament for the sixth straight season... Binghamton Bearcats
Binghamton (8-33, 3-17 America East) ended its 2007 with a 5-4 win over Maine on Sunday... Senior outfielder Stephanie Woodcock (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville) belted a three-run home run and drove in a career-high four runs in the win... All four of the Bearcat seniors had a hit in the victory...Senior first baseman Christina Quijano (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs, senior catcher Mia Bieman (Wingham, Ontario/Briarcliff CC) had a RBI single and senior outfielder Emilie Palmcrantz (Leskand, Weden/Long Beach CC) also chipped in a single... Quijano finished the season with a team-high .260 batting average while Bieman drilled a team-best five home runs... Junior outfielder Sarah Eppolito (Manlus, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius had a team-high 20 RBI while sophomore pitcher Cyrilla Suker (Voorheesville, N.Y./UMass-Lowell) struck out 142 batters in 115.1 innings (8.63 strikeouts per game).
Boston University Terriers
Boston University (34-12, 17-3 America East) clinched the 2007 America East regular-season crown with a 4-1 win over Vermont on Saturday afternoon... The Terriers cruised to a 12-2 victory in game two and picked up a 14-1 win on Sunday... Pitchers Brittany Detwiler and Megan Currier each earned complete-game wins... It is the Terriers first regular-season title since the 2003 season and first for head coach Shawn Rychcik... Senior Chiya Louie (Seattle, Wash./Ingraham) had a record-breaking week, breaking the single-season and career home run records... Louie started with the single-season record against Boston College, recording two homers in the doubleheader... In the regular-season finale at Vermont, Louie topped the career home run record with a two-run blast in the second inning... Senior Brittany Detwiler (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) picked up three wins in three appearances, earning a 2.47 ERA and allowing six earned runs... As a team the Terriers have shattered the previous team home run record more than doubling the mark, which now stands at 63... As of April 29, the Terriers were ninth in the nation in home runs per game.
Hartford Hawks
Hartford (22-25, 12-8 America East) closed out the regular season by winning two out of three games at UMBC and earned the third seed in the upcoming America East Championship... The Hawks will face the second-seeded Retrievers in the first round of the double-elimination tournament on Thursday, May 10... Hartford's only other appearance at the conference championship came during the 2002 season... The Hawks advanced to the championship game in 2002 but lost to Boston University... Freshman Brittney Stratton (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) went 2-0 in the circle last week, picking up both wins against UMBC... She gave up only three earned runs over 14 innings while striking out 12... Her overall record improved to 15-10 on the season, with nine of those wins coming in conference play... Senior Kristie Rochette (Meriden, Conn./Lyman Hall) batted .308 last week and scored a team-high five runs... She also picked up a pair of RBI on her second homer of the season, a shot that gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the first game of the UMBC series... She leads the team in hitting with a .314 average... A pair of school records fell last week in non-conference action against Central Connecticut State University... Senior Nikki Thompson (West Seneca, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) hit her team-leading fifth homer of the season, making her the school's all-time career leader with 19 over her four seasons... Rochette also broke the career walks record in the same game and now has 63 free passes.
UMBC Retrievers
UMBC (30-16, 13-8 America East) wrapped up the regular season by losing two of three at home to conference rival Hartford... Junior Ashley Gray (Pasadena, Md./Northeast/Delaware State) was dominant through the first three innings of game one, retiring all nine batters in order... Gray struck out the first six batters of the game and finished with 14 in seven innings but took the loss in a 4-2 decision... Senior shortstop Reilly Ward (Olney, Md./Sherwood) hit the 30th home run of her career in the second game, tying her with teammate Melanie Denischuk (Poway, Calif./Hugh Sutherland (Carstairs, Alberta)/Indian River CC/Auburn) for second place all-time at UMBC... Junior second baseman Dana Shepherd (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) hit her 18th double of the year, tying UMBC’s single-season record... Freshman Amanda Fefel (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) hit her team-best 12th homer of the season and also picked up the win in the 10-2 five-inning victory... The Retrievers clinched the second seed in the America East Tournament with the win... Sophomore Krista Kearns (Santa Fe Springs, Calif./Santa Fe) pitched 4.1 scoreless innings of relief with six strikeouts in the series finale to keep the Retrievers in the game in a 7-2 loss on Senior Day... Senior left fielder Kristi Troster led the Retrievers with a .714 average and 1.429 slugging percentage in the series, as she went 5-for-7 with two doubles and a home run... UMBC returns to the America East Championships for the second year in a row and will face Hartford in the first round on Thursday.
Stony Brook Seawolves
Stony Brook (28-20, 11-9 America East) went 2-3 in the final week of play... In game one of a doubleheader against Marist, Molly Kestranek (St. Mary’s, Ga./Fayetteville-Manilus) homered in the fourth inning to give the Seawolves a 2-1 lead... Stony Brook would take tie the score in the seventh when Marissa Fleury (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) reached on an error allowing Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) to score... Marist scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat Stony Brook, 7-5... In game two, Stony Brook scored five runs helped by three Marist wild pitches... Kendall Blumenthal (Frederick, Md./Frederick), Jamie Downer (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) and Kavitsky all had RBI hits in the inning... Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla./Cooper City) won her seventh game of the season in the 7-3 win. In the final regular season series against Albany, Stony Brook was swept 3-0 in both games by Albany... Kestranek and Kavitsky had the lone hits for the Seawolves... In the final game of the season, Ashley Westphal, (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) gave Stony Brook an early lead with a home run... Downer and Kavitsky each had two RBI for the Seawolves in the 6-1 win... Stony Brook’s 28-20 record was its best in the school’s Division I history.
Vermont Catamounts
Vermont (12-29, 5-16 America East) was swept in the final weekend of the season, falling at home to Boston University in three straight games... Junior Aimee Kern (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip) hit a two-run home run in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday for her fifth round tripper of the season, tying for the team lead this year and also tying the school single season record... Kern is the school’s all-time home run leader as well with now 13 for her career... On Sunday Kern had one of the Catamounts three hits and in the process extended her hitting streak to a team-high 12 straight games... She also struck out three Boston U. hitters to set a new school single-season strikeout record with 171 for the year, as she surpassed her own record of 168 from last season... Sunday was the season finale for the Catamounts and also Senior Day for Sara Burke (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute), Kate DeForge (Norwalk, Conn./The Gunnery), Emily Miles (Colchester, Vt./Colchester), Annie O’Brien (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) and Kate Ramsey (Littleton, N.H./Profile).
