ALBANY, N.Y. - The Great Danes stole the show at America East’s annual men’s lacrosse awards banquet on Wednesday evening as Albany’s Frank Resetarits (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and Scott Marr were named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively. Binghamton’s Steve Carlson (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) was also tabbed Rookie of the Year to round out the three major award winners honored.

Resetarits, a senior, is in the midst of one of the most prolific seasons in recent memory. He currently leads the nation in points (65, 4.64 ppg) and goals (46, 3.29 gpg) and also leads the league in game-winning goals (4), while ranking second in assists (19, 1.36 ppg). The 6-2 attacker has tallied four or more goals against seven opponents this season and owns a 45-game consecutive scoring streak, the second longest in the nation. He ranks second on the school’s all-time scoring list with 227 points (148 goals, 79 assists) and has tallied 60-plus points for the second-consecutive season.

Marr has guided Albany to a share of the 2007 America East regular-season title and the top seed for the upcoming four-team conference tournament. The Great Danes recently completed the most memorable regular-season in school history as they were ranked second in the USILA coaches’ poll for six-consecutive weeks and rank second in the nation in scoring (13.29 gpg).

Carlson, the only freshman to earn a spot on the All-Conference First Team, has netted 15 goals with three assists in 12 games played for the Bearcats. The 6-0 midfielder has also tallied one game-winning goal on the season and ranks second on his team in goals, third in scoring (18, 1.5 ppg) and tied for fourth in assists (3, 0.25 apg).

Joining Resetarits and Carlson on the first team is Albany’s Jordan Levine (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage), Craig McDonald (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva), Brett Queener (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) and Merrick Thomson (Stoney Creek, Ontario/Albany Academy), Binghamton’s Tom Wilmot (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Southside) and UMBC’s Travis Begay (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo/CCBC-Essex), Terry Kimener (Oakton, Va./Bridgton Academy) and Drew Westervelt (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll).

A senior attacker, Westervelt has had an impressive individual season as he ranks third in the nation in assists (28, 2.15 apg) and fifth in points (54, 4.15 ppg). Thomson also plays a pivotal role in Albany’s success as he has netted 39 goals, good for second in the league behind Resetarits.

The second team consists of Albany’s Mike Ammann (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley), Steve Ammann (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley), Derek Dale (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem), Garrett Pedley (Bow, N.H./Bow) and Tom Trapani (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai), UMBC’s Bobby Atwell (Dunkirk, Md./Southern), Andy Gallagher (Rockville, Md./DeMatha) and Alex Hopmann (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and Stony Brook’s Brendan Callahan (Hanover, Md./Gonzaga) and Bo Tripodi (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge).

Albany’s Kyle Brunk (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert), Binghamton’s Andy Cook (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), Jeff Rurey (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) and Drew Wichmann (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran), UMBC’s Mike Camardo (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland), Cayle Ratcliffe (Victoria BC Canada/Western Reserve) and Kyle Wimer (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Stony Brook’s Steve Waldeck (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) and Vermont’s Max Wilson (Great Falls, Va./Langley) join Carlson on the all-rookie squad.

The 10-member all-academic team, which honors the conference’s top athletes with a 3.0 grade-point average or higher, was highlighted by first-team selection Thomson and second-teamers Mike and Steve Ammann, Pedley and Callahan. Also on the squad is Binghamton’s John Dreska (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Southside) and Larry Kline (Beverly, Mass./Beverly), Hartford’s Chris Griffin (Medford, Mass./Elmira College), Stony Brook’s Larry Cerasi (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) and Vermont’s Peter Hein (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek). Steve Ammann boasted the highest GPA amongst the 10 honorees with a 3.89.

The All-Academic team is a product of the June 2005 Athletics Director meetings. Faculty representatives and athletics directors from each of the conference’s nine member institutions decided to honor some of the league’s top athletes that are also quality students.

The All-Academic Team has been selected based on the student-athlete’s academic and athletic accomplishments. Academic achievement for consideration requires student-athletes to have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 entering the season. Athletically, student-athletes are required to be a nomination on the postseason awards ballot, which is determined by the league’s head coaches. Team size for team sports is based on the number of athletes that participate in a contest at one time (e.g., 10 on the field for men’s lacrosse). Freshmen are not eligible for the all-academic teams and grade-point averages are taken from the semester prior to the competing athletic season.

All 20 all-conference sections will be in action at the 2007 America East Men’s Lacrosse Championship beginning on Thursday, May 3 at Albany’s John Fallon Field.
