For the fourth time this season, Albany's Frank Resetarits (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) has been named America East Player of the Week for men's lacrosse, while Binghamton freshman Drew Wichmann (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) has repeated as America East Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday (April 2).
Resetarits had one goal and a season-best five assists in a 13-10 victory over Colgate on March 27 and followed that up with three goals and one assist in a 13-10 win over defending America East champion UMBC in a battle of national top-20 teams. The senior extended his consecutive scoring streak to 39 straight games, the third-longest among active Division I players and moved into second place on the school’s career goals list with 122 and is now fourth in assists (74).
Wichmann netted two goals and dished out three assists in Binghamton’s 16-4 win over Hartford on Saturday. In the past three games, Wichmann has scored five goals and dished out 10 assists. He has recorded five points in each of the past three games and has played a part in 15 of the Bearcats’ 36 goals during that span.

ALBANY GREAT DANES
Albany (8-0, 2-0 America East) picked up a pair of wins against Colgate (13-10) and #20 UMBC (13-9) last week... Merrick Thomson (Stoney Creek, Ontario/Albany Academy) tied a season-high with five goals against the Raiders... Thomson has tallied five or more points 19 times as a collegian... The Great Danes, who are off to their best start in the program’s history, led 11-7 in the final period but then found the cage with a pair of goals 18 seconds apart... Steve Ammann (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) lofted a 40-yard shot into any empty net against a 10-man ride... Thomson, who is fourth on the all-time scoring list with 196 points, then added his 150th career goal... UAlbany posted its eighth consecutive win, the longest since 1972, in defeating UMBC, the defending America East champion... Frank Resetarits (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) had three goals and one assist to lead the way... The Great Danes led 10-8 midway through the final period before reeling off three unanswered over a two-minute-and-35-second span... Corey Small (St. Catharines, Ontario/Holy Cross) scored from just above the crease area to ignite that outburst... Resetarits added his 20th of the season and Eric Wolf (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) sent a blast into the top left corner... goalkeeper Brett Queener (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) had a season-high 14 saves, including five in the final period... Queener has made double-figure stops 15 times in a UAlbany uniform... Resetarits, who along with Thomson is on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List for national player of the year, has climbed to second in goals (122), fourth in assists (74) and fifth in points (196) on the school’s all-time lists... Resetarits extended his consecutive scoring streak to 39 straight games... The Great Danes, who are ranked among the top four in both national polls, have wins this season over four top-20 clubs... UAlbany raised approximately $2,500 at the UMBC game for the Nicole Dale Alopecia Fund... Nicole Dale, the sister of UAlbany attacker Derek Dale (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem), was diagnosed 14 months ago with microadenoma, a brain tumor near the pituitary gland and also has alopecia universalis, a disease that affects the autoimmune system and results in a total loss of body hair.
BINGHAMTON BEARCATS
After struggling offensively at the start of the season, Binghamton (2-4, 1-0 America East) has averaged 12.3 goals over its past three games... freshman attack Drew Wichmann (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) continues to lead the Bearcats with 18 points (six goals, 12 assists). In Saturday's 16-4 win over Hartford, he scored twice and dished out three assists, marking the third straight game he has reached five points in a game. Over the past three games, he has scored five goals and dished out 10 assists... sophomore attack Chris Mulheron (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) scored three goals and added three assists in the win against Hartford. His six points represents the highest point total a Bearcat player has recorded in a game this season. For Mulheron, it was his third career hat trick... sophomore attack Jake Boyce (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) leads Binghamton with nine goals this season. He scored three goals against Hartford marking the second straight game and fifth time in his career that he has recorded a hat trick... Binghamton's game against Virginia on Saturday marks the first time in its six-year program history that it has squared off against the defending national champion.
HARTFORD HAWKS
Hartford (1-7, 0-2 America East) dropped a pair of games last week, falling 18-3 against Yale and 16-4 at Binghamton. Junior Steve Roop (Lewiston, Maine/Elmira College) led the team in scoring for the week with three assists for three points... Sophomore Daniel Clough (Piedmont, Calif./Dematha) leads the team in scoring on the season with five goals and a team-high six assists for 11 points... Freshman Rob Steffens (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) leads the team in goals with seven... Sophomore goalie Jon McMahon (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) has started all eight games and has made 90 saves... Hartford has scored just five man-up goals this season in 38 opportunities. The Hawks are also being outshot 338-168 and outscored 117-40... Hartford will play two games this week, hosting Siena on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. and UMBC on Saturday at 1 p.m.
UMBC RETRIEVERS
For the first time in four America East seasons, UMBC (9-13, 0-1 America East) lost its league opener, falling to second-ranked Albany, 13-9 on Saturday... Three of UMBC’s four losses have occurred to teams currently ranked in the USILA top ten... The Retrievers are now 0-3 on the road this season and have been victimized by slow starts each time... UMBC has scored only six goals in the first half in those three setbacks at Denver, Maryland and Albany... The Retrievers were also 4-4 after eight games last season, but won their final six games of the regular season and America East Tournament... Freshman Kyle Wimer (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) snapped a personal five-game goal-scoring drought with a pair of scores 39 seconds apart and classmate Cayle Ratcliffe (Victoria, Brit. Columbia/Western Reserve (Ohio)) converted a Drew Westervelt (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) feed to bring UMBC to within 10-8 with plenty of time (8:55) remaining... However, the Great Danes responded with another three straight goals in a span of 2:35, ending UMBC’s hopes of the come-from-behind win... Ratcliffe led a balanced UMBC attack with two goals and two assists... Wimer added a pair of goals and Westervelt had two assists... UMBC outshot Albany, 42-33, including a decided 25-15 edge in the second half... They also controlled 13 of 18 draws in the final 30 minutes, won the ground ball battle, 33-30 and cleared successfully 17 of 19 times... UMBC faces another nationally-ranked foe as Towson visits UMBC Stadium on Tuesday before the Retrievers travel to Hartford for an America East encounter on Saturday.
STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES
Stony Brook (5-1, 1-0 America East) won it's fifth game in a row over the weekend as it topped Vermont, 9-4... Stony Brook went undefeated in the month of March, going 5-0... Senior Sean Chamberlain (Holbrook, N.Y./Indian Hills) tallied a career-best five points off two goals and three assists... The Seawolves, who outshot the Catamounts 40-16, limited UVM to just one goal in the second half... Ryan Hughes (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) continued to lead SB's offense out of the midfield as he registered two goals and an assist in the win... The Seawolves will take on rival Albany on Saturday in a crucial America East contest at 1 p.m.
VERMONT CATAMOUNTS
Vermont (3-6, 0-1 America East) lost to Brown at Moulton Winder Field last Tuesday 13-4... On Saturday the Catamounts dropped a 9-4 decision at home to No. 19 Stony Brook in the America East opener for UVM... Senior Dan Zwirko (Longmeadow, Mass.) had three goals and one assist on the week... He is first on the team in scoring this season with 13 goals and seven assists for 20 points... Senior Sean Layton (Wilmington, Mass./Malden Catholic) recorded two goals in the loss to Stony Brook... Senior midfielder Adam Kornuth (Denver, Colo./East) had three assists on the week and is tied for the team lead in assists with 10... He is tied for fourth overall in assists among America East players... Senior Daryl Swarts (Ann Arbor, Mich.) made 20 saves on the week and ranks second in America East in saves per game at 13 per contest... Senior John Leonard (Woolwich, Maine/Governor Drummer) leads all Vermont defenseman in grounds balls with 29... This week Vermont travels to Binghamton on Saturday (April 7) for a 1 p.m. start.
