Terriers Sweep Weekly Women's Lacrosse Awards

After posting three wins on the week by a combined score of 55-21, Boston University has swept the America East women's lacrosse weekly honors. Lauren Morton (Glenside, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy) has been named America East Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Molly Collins (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) garners Defensive Player of the Week accolades and Traci Landy (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) has been tabbed Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career.

Morton became the 13th player in program history to reach the 100-point mark, tallying 11 points on the week, including 10 goals. She recorded her second five-goal game of the year in a 19-5 win over Binghamton and also tallied five points (4g, 1a) in a 19-8 victory against Albany. She also hauled in 13 draw controls on the week in addition to causing six turnovers.

Collins was instrumental in the Terriers’ three-win week, scoring a combined eight goals on just nine shots to go along with four assists. She also posted 11 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and eight draw controls. Against Harvard, Collins recorded season highs in caused turnovers (5), ground balls (6) and draw controls (5). Later in the week in a conference game against Albany, the junior scored on all five of her shots en route to career highs in both goals (5) and points (7). Collins capped her week with a three-goal performance versus Binghamton.

Landy turned in multi-goal performances in all three of Boston U.’s wins, combining for nine goals on the week. She tallied a career-best four goals in a 17-8 victory over Harvard and registered three goals and an assist in a 19-5 league victory against Binghamton. The freshman also found the back of the net twice in a home win over Albany. She has scored at least one goal in all 12 games of her young career.


TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES

ALBANY GREAT DANES
Albany (6-7, 2-2 America East) split a pair of America East Conference games last week to stay in the league postseason tournament picture... The Great Danes dropped a 19-8 decision to Boston University on April 11, but then bounced back with an 11-9 victory over Vermont three days later... Kate Fontana (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) had three goals and one assist, all in the first half, against Vermont to help her team break a three-game skid... After UVM closed within 8-7 midway through the second half, Stacey Brown (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) converted a bounce shot from in front of the cage... Kayla Best (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) followed 39 seconds later when she sent a sidearm shot into the right side of the net on a free-position attempt... Best, a freshman who has reached the scoring column in 12 of 13 games this season, combined for six points (5 goals, 1 assist) in last week’s two games... Christine Grueniger (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) has tallied 17 goals over her last seven outings... the freshman attacker had one goal over the opening six games of the season... Rory Redmond (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) had a pair of free-position goals versus Vermont... The sophomore has scored multiple goals against five opponents this spring... Fontana needs six points to become the school’s all-time scoring leader... The senior midfielder has 179 career points (145 goals, 34 assists)... Maria Ferrucci (184) and Dawn Di Micco (182) are just ahead of her on the UAlbany scoring chart... Sarah Spillett (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) has moved to sixth in career goals (83) and sixth in career points (133) on program’s all-time lists... goalkeeper Jen Daly (Stowe, Pa./Pottsgove) has made 64 consecutive starts... Katelyn Primomo (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) picked up her sixth career goal in the Vermont win.

BINGHAMTON BEARCATS
Binghamton (1-10, 0-5 America East) dropped each of its contests this past week, falling on Wednesday against Vermont, 18-11, before a 19-5 setback on Saturday at Boston University... Freshman Erika Travis (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) led the Bearcats on the week totaling nine points (six goals, three assists) in their two contests. She has now scored in five consecutive games, a span in which she has led the team with 13 points (10 goals, 3 assists). She currently ranks third on the team in scoring with 14 points... Sophomore defender Kara Slowik (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) continues to anchor the defensive unit backline with a team-leading 39 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers... The Bearcats travel to St. Bonaventure on Tuesday before hosting Long Island University on Thursday.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY TERRIERS
Boston University (7-5, 3-1 America East) completed a successful three-game homestand, posting wins over Harvard (17-8), Albany (19-8) and Binghamton (19-5)... Five Terriers scored at least 10 points during the three-game span and 12 different players scored at least one goal on the week... Junior Molly Collins (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) scored eight goals on nine shots and added 11 ground balls and eight caused turnovers... Junior Lauren Morton (Glenside, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy) had 10 goals and 13 draw controls on the week and became the 13th player in school history to eclipse the 100-point mark... Senior Angie Martin (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough) combined for five goals and six assists on the week and moved into third place on the school's career assist list with 67... Sophomore Sarah Dalton (Cornwall, Vt./Taft School) has scored at least three goals in each of the Terriers' last six contests... Redshirt freshman Rachel Klein (Forest Hill, Md./Roland Park) earned the first two wins of her career, posting a 6.24 goals against average and a .600 save percentage in over 96 minutes between the pipes. She saved six of the eight shots on goal she faced against Harvard before stopping eight shots and allowing four goals versus Albany... Sophomore Stephanie Walker (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) had four career points entering the week before combining for four goals and three assists during the three victories... Freshmen Jenny Taft (Edina, Minn./Edina), Jenny Martin (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough) and Xan Weitzel (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) all recorded their first collegiate goal in the win over Harvard, while senior Kait Gentry (Towson, Md./Garrison Forest) tallied her first goal of the season.

UMBC RETRIEVERS
UMBC (6-8, 2-2 America East) split two games last week, falling to No. 16 Johns Hopkins, 15-9, on Wednesday before defeating red-hot America East rival Stony Brook, 12-11, on Saturday... The Retrievers were tied with the Blue Jays, 4-4, midway through the first half, but Hopkins scored seven straight goals to take control of the game... UMBC scored six of the game’s first seven goals against the Seawolves en route to snapping Stony Brook’s seven-game winning streak... Senior attack Jen Kasper (Eldersburg, Md./South Carroll) scored a game-high four points on three goals and an assist, while sophomore midfielder Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) also posted a hat trick... Freshman goalie Kate Quick (Phoenix, Md./Maryvale Prep) made a career-high 12 saves against Johns Hopkins and nearly matched that total with 11 against Stony Brook... Dorr leads the Retrievers with 25 goals on the season, while senior midfielder Kelly Fahey (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) has scored a team-best 35 points... Fahey ranks eighth all-time at UMBC with 48 career assists... The Retrievers host local rival Mount St. Mary’s on Wednesday in their final non-conference action of the season, then head to America East rival Vermont on Saturday.

NEW HAMPSHIRE WILDCATS
New Hampshire (6-6, 3-1 America East) remained winless on Wednesday with last week’s 11-8 loss to Stony Brook... Sophomore midfielder Michaela Hardy (Reading, Mass./Reading) holds the team’s longest active point-scoring streak of seven games following her three-point effort (2g, 1a) against SBU... Junior defender Bailley Mazur (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) recorded her first career assist with one against SBU... Junior goalkeeper Ashley Milley (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) was instrumental to UNH’s second-half comeback bid versus the Seawolves; she made seven saves for a .700 save percentage... It may not have been reflected in the statistics, but junior attack Maureen Wark (Yarmouth, Maine/McAuley) and freshman attack Missy Hamilton (Hopkinton, Mass./Lawrence) also came off the bench to play key roles in the second-half rally; both players recorded one ground ball and Wark was also credited with a caused turnover... Kelli LaPerch (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) has led the team in ground balls in eight of 12 games... The Wildcats have a 3-0 record in games decided by one goal and they are 2-0 in two-goal games... An average of 21 total goals are scored in a UNH game this season, but that first one is a pretty accurate indicator as to which team will win; the ?Cats a 4-2 when scoring first and 2-4 when falling behind 1-0... UNH is 0-3 against nationally-ranked teams this season and plays at No. 19 UConn on Tuesday... New Hampshire will honor its two-member senior class prior to Saturday’s game versus Boston U.

STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES
The Seawolves (10-2, 3-1 America East) went 1-1 on the week against a pair of America East opponents... In New Hampshire, the Seawolves held off a furious rally from New Hampshire to top the Wildcats, 11-8, on Wednesday afternoon... In a tale of two halves, the Seawolves held an 8-1 advantage heading into the locker room but were outscored 7-3 in the second stanza. Plagued by 29 turnovers in the contest, SB received yet another terrific performance in the cage from Jen Sandtorv (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach)... The 10 wins' sets a new program record for most wins in a season . . . Amy Taylor (Owings, Md./Northern) led the way for SB as she recorded a pair of goals and three assists for her fifth game in a row with at least five points... Jenna Celano (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale/George Mason) added a hat trick while Kaitlin Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) tacked on an assist and a goal... The Seawolves had their seven-game winning streak as it fell at UMBC, 12-11, on Saturday afternoon... SB never led in the game but cut the lead to one on three occasions to stay within striking distance... Diana Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) led the way with three goals and an assist while Amy Hallion (Glenelg, South Australia/Flinders), Leggio, and Taylor each finished with a pair of goals and an assist as Sandtorv made 12 saves in goal for the Seawolves in the game.

VERMONT CATAMOUNTS
Vermont (4-10, 1-2 America East) earned its first conference win of the year with an 18-11 victory at Binghamton, but dropped an 11-9 decision at Albany on the week... Against Binghamton, senior Becky Kenison (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock) and sophomore Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair Secondary) each reached the 100-career point milestone. Millar reached the mark in just her 28th career game, the fastest in school history and the second fastest in America East history. Millar begins the week with a team leading 53 points, the third most in a single season at Vermont, and still has three games left to play in the regular season. Millar leads the country in draw controls (5.33 pg) and the Catamounts rank fourth overall in the country in that category as a team (14.5 pg)... Against the Great Danes, junior goalkeeper Meaghan Hanley (Fort Pierce, Fla./Middletown (Del.)) made a career-high 19 saves for Vermont... The Catamounts close out the regular season hosting three home games, starting Wednesday (April 18) versus Boston U and Saturday (April 21) versus UMBC.
