Binghamton, N.Y. -- Senior guard Ikea Witt and sophomore guard MaryLynne Schaefer each scored 16 points as the top-seeded Hartford downed No. 8 Albany, 60-50, in America East quarterfinal matchup on Friday night at Events Center in Binghamton. Hartford advances to the semifinals, where they will take on the winner of the Binghamton-Boston University quarterfinal game.
In a game that featured nine lead changes in the first 11 minutes of play, Hartford was finally able to distance themselves from Albany as they used a 17-9 run to close out the first half with a 28-21 lead. While Albany opened up the second half on an 8-0 run, Schaefer scored the games next eight points, as Hartford led 36-33 and never trailed again.
Junior Danielle Hood scored 16 points and freshman Diana Delva added 10 points for the Hawks, who have now won 14-straight games. Delva also added a game-high 10 rebounds.
Albany was led by Amanda Ward’s 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. Sherri Mikus pitched in with 10 points.
