Binghamton, N.Y.- Freshman guard Courtnay Pilypaitis poured in a game-high 23 points as third-seeded Vermont beat No. 6 Maine, 70-57, in an America East quarterfinal matchup Friday afternoon at Events Center. Vermont advances to the semifinals where they will play No. 7 UMBC Saturday at 5 p.m.
Vermont had not led the game since the score was 6-4 early in the first half, but after Pilypaitis’s three-pointer, the Catamounts never trailed for the rest of the contest.
In addition to Pilypaitis, two other Catamounts scored in double figures. May Kotsopoulos scored 12 points, while Amy Rosenkantz added 13 points.
Senior forward Bracey Barker was the high scorer for Maine posting a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Ashley Underwood added 21 for the Black Bears.
America East Players of the game were Bracey Barker of Maine and Courtnay Pilypaitis of Vermont.
