Morton, Sandtorv, Kaplan Collect Weekly Women's Lacrosse Accolades

Boston University’s Lauren Morton (Glenside, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy) has been named America East Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while Stony Brook’s Jen Sandtorv (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) repeats as Defensive Player of the Week and New Hampshire’s Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass./ Framingham) garner Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced on Monday (March 5).

Morton tied her career highs in both goals (5) and points (6) to lead the Terriers to a 14-10 victory over No. 14 Hofstra on Saturday and help Liz Robertshaw earn the first head-coaching victory of her career. Morton recorded two draw controls and tallied three points in each half, scoring the game’s first goal before adding an assist and another goal before the half to help the Terriers race out to a 9-3 lead at the break. The junior capped her day with a trio of goals in the second half to put away the Pride.

Sandtorv picked up two wins as she led the Seawolves in the cage... She allowed just four goals, none in the second half, while making eight saves in the win over Lehigh. In the Seawolves win over Brown, she made 10 saves in goal for th win.

Kaplan, who lettered for the UNH women’s soccer team last fall, had an impressive first week on the lacrosse field by scoring two goals in each of her first two games. She recorded two goals and an assist ? as well as two ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls -- to help UNH defeat Holy Cross. Her goal at 4:41 of the second half ignited the 5-1 run that forced overtime.
