Durepo, Two Great Danes Honored in Women's Lacrosse

New Hampshire's Ashley Durepo (Concord, N.H./Concord) has been tabbed America East Player of the Week for women's lacrosse, while Albany's Jen Daly (Stowe, Pa./Pottsgrove) has been named Defensive Player of the Week and teammate Grueniger (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) garners Rookie of the Week accolades. The awards were announced Monday (March 26).

Durepo recorded team highs in both goals (six) and points (seven) to lead UNH to one-goal victories against both UMass and UMBC last week. She factored into five of the Wildcats’ last six goals against UMass by assisting on the team’s sixth goal (to tie the game 6-6 late in the first half), then gave the ?Cats three one-goal leads and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal when she gave UNH an 11-9 lead at 4:01. With UNH ahead 11-10 in the closing minute, Durepo secured the victory by collecting a ground ball with 41 seconds remaining. The four goals tied her career high and the five points established a career high. In the road game vs. UMBC, Durepo recorded two goals, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Her first tally tied the game 1-1 early in the opening half, and her other goal gave the Wildcats a 9-8 lead at 9:57 of the second half.

Daly allowed five goals and made six saves in an 11-5 victory against Le Moyne on March 21, adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win over the defending MAAC champion. She tallied four saves and no goals allowed in one half of play against Niagara on March 25, plus had five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Rookie of the Week

Grueniger tallied a career-high five goals, including three in the opening period, in a 19-1 victory at Niagara on March 25. She netted a pair of shots to push the lead to 11-0 with 7:58 left in the first half. Grueniger scored three goals in an 11-5 win over defending MAAC champion Le Moyne on March 21, scoring twice in a three-goal run with less than eight minutes to play that helped her team pull away.

ALBANY GREAT DANES
Albany (4-4, 0-0 America East) has won three straight following victories over Le Moyne and Niagara last week... The string of wins matches the second-longest streak in the program’s Division I history... Freshman Christine Grueniger (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) had a career-high five goals and Brittany Scott (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) scored four times in the first half against Niagara... Rory Redmond (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) added two goals and two assists as eight UAlbany players reached the scoring column... UAlbany recorded its largest win margin at the Division I level... Kate Fontana (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) added a season-high five points (3 goals, 2 assists)... Fontana and Grueniger each scored three times in the victory over Le Moyne, the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion... Grueniger had just two points this season prior to last week’s action... Fontana, a three-time all-conference standout, moved past UAlbany Hall of Famer Debbie August (1993-96) into second place on the school’s all-time goals list with 133... The senior midfielder also climbed into third with 230 career ground balls... Goalkeeper Jen Daly (Stowe, Pa./Pottsgrove) allowed five goals and made 10 saves in 90 minutes of play against Le Moyne and Niagara... Daly is second on the career saves chart with 598... Sarah Spillett, who scored twice at Niagara, is seventh in career scoring with 125 points (77 goals, 48 assists)... Freshman Kayla Best (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) had one goal and established a career-best with three assists in her last outing... Best has reached the scoring column in seven of eight games this season... Julie Bush (Jordan, N.Y./Jordan-Elbridge) will miss the remainder of the season following knee surgery... Bush was a member of the 2006 America East All-Rookie Team.

BINGHAMTON BEARCATS
Binghamton (0-5, 0-1 America East) remains winless after dropping its conference opener, 21-7, at Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon... Senior Danielle Edwards (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) stretched her consecutive goal scoring streak to five games. Edwards is third all-time on the Bearcats' all-time scoring list with 63 career goals... Binghamton returns to action on Tuesday, March 27 on the road against Marist at 4 p.m. before hosting conference foe Albany in the 2007 home opener on Saturday at 3 p.m.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY TERRIERS
Boston University (2-4, 0-0 America East) suffered a pair of losses on the week, dropping a 13-5 road contest against Yale on Wednesday before falling to No. 2 Northwestern, 17-4, at Nickerson Field on Sunday... Boston U. held a 5-3 lead against the Bulldogs before allowing the home team to reel off the game's final 10 goals... The two-time defending national champion proved to be too much, jumping out to an 8-0 lead before the Terriers scored four goals in the second half... Freshman Traci Landy (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) had four goals and an assist on the week, highlighted by a three-goal performance against the Wildcats... Junior Lauren Morton (Glenside, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy) had three goals and six draw controls on the week, while senior Angie Martin (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough) recorded a two goals and an assist... Freshman McKinley Curro (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) combined for three assists in the two games and junior Molly Collins (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) caused four turnovers in the Northwestern game... Junior goaltender Jenna Golden (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) made 20 saves on the week, including 11 against Yale.

UMBC RETRIEVERS
UMBC (3-6, 0-1 America East) dropped two home games last week, falling to 15th-ranked Denver, 15-2, on March 19, before losing its America East opener in a close one to preseason favorite New Hampshire, 10-9, on March 24... The Retrievers have dropped four straight for the first time since the middle of the 2005 season... After averaging 12.8 goals in their first five games of the season, the Retrievers have scored just 6.5 per game in the four consecutive losses... Two freshmen, attack Amanda Gable (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) and midfielder Kelly Burgoyne (Sykesville, Md./Century) scored UMBC’s lone goals against the Pioneers... The Retrievers led the Wildcats, 8-7, with 13:31 to play after scoring three straight goals, but New Hampshire answered with three of the final four goals of the game for the 10-9 victory... Junior attack Ali Levendusky (Baldwin, Md./John Carroll) and senior midfielder Kelly Fahey (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) are tied for the team lead with 20 points apiece, while Levendusky and sophomore midfielder Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) have each scored a team-best 15 goals... Junior defender Maggie Chizmar (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) leads the Retrievers with 17 ground balls, 25 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers... The Retrievers return to action Saturday, March 31, when they head to Boston to take on two-time defending America East champion Boston University.

NEW HAMPSHIRE WILDCATS
New Hampshire (4-3, 1-0 America East) extended its winning streak to three games with one-goal wins against both Massachusetts (11-10) and UMBC (10-9)... Three of UNH’s wins have been by a one-goal margin, and the other was by two goals... The Wildcats have a 3-1 road record this season... Alexa Webster (Aurora Colo./Smoky Hill) recorded her 50th career goal with the first of her two tallies at UMBC... Ashley Durepo (Concord, N.H./Concord) matched her career high of four goals as part of a personal-best five points against UMass... Beth Sabiston (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) set a career high of three points with two goals and an assist vs. UMass... Sabiston has already matched her rookie mark in goals (seven) and surpassed her point total (seven) with nine in just seven games... Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) has scored a goal in all seven games this season and has seven multiple-point efforts... Moira Talbot (Marblehead, Mass./Governor Dummer) is the other Wildcat who can boast scoring a goal in every game this season, and she has six multiple-point efforts... Natalie Jones (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) recorded three saves in all four halves of play last week... New Hampshire opens a three-game homestand Wednesday against Hofstra.

STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES
Stony Brook (7-1, 1-0 America East) picked up a pair of victories on the week... The Seawolves roared out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back as they toppled Siena, 18-7, on Tuesday afternoon... It took Emily Jaissle (Northport, N.Y./Northport/Maryland) just 21 seconds to net the Seawolves first goal of the game as they raced out to an 8-0 lead... Seven different Seawolves scored in the stretch... Jaissle finished the contest with six points off a game-high four goals and two assists... Kaitlin Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) added six points as she dished five assists and netted a goal while Carlee Buck (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) recorded a goal and three assists. Jen Sandtorv (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) made 10 saves in the cage to earn the win as11 different Seawolves found the back of the cage in the contest... Amy Taylor (Owings, Md./Northern) tied a school record for points in a game with nine as the Seawolves defeated rival Binghamton, 21-7, in both squads America East Conference opener on Saturday afternoon... SB shot out of the gate as they netted five unanswered goals to open up the game... A Buck goal with 2:56 left in the first half sparked a four-goal stretch for SB in a 1:18 span to regain a 12-4 lead heading into the locker room... Taylor was sensational all game as she recorded a game-high five assists and added four goals to tie a Stony Brook record with nine points in the game. Buck chipped in with three goals and three assists while Amy Hallion (Glenelg, South Australia/Flingers Univ.) netted a game-high five goals to go along with a pair of assists... SB will entertain Oregon on Friday afternoon in its lone action this week

VERMONT CATAMOUNTS
Vermont (2-6, 0-0 America East) dropped a 16-10 decision to Boston College in its lone game of the week on Wednesday... The UVM roster is loaded with 22 underclassmen on the 30-player roster making the Catamounts the youngest team in America East... Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair Secondary) has totaled 80 career points and ranks among the top-10 career points leaders at Vermont, just eight games into her sophomore campaign... She has recorded 36 career assists, which ranks her fifth all-time among the career leaders... Senior Becky Kenison (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock) is six points shy of becoming the seventh Catamount to reach 100 career points. She begins the week with 94 points (7th all-time) and 79 career goals (6th all-time)... Vermont hosts Siena on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and then travels to New Hampshire on Saturday for the conference opener at 1 p.m.
