Behind a game-high 25 points from Ikea Witt, the Hartford women's basketball team sailed past Bucknell, 70-54, in the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament at Chase Family Arena on Thursday night in West Hartford, Conn.
The Hawks now travel to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks on Sunday, March 18 at 5 p.m. South Carolina received an at-large bid to the 48-team event and was also awarded a first-round bye.
Witt poured in 25 points as she connected on 11-of-14 field goal attempts in just 28 minutes of action. Danielle Hood joined Witt in double figures with 11 points for the Hawks.
Lauren Schober (11 points) and Hope Foster (10) paced the Bisons.
NOTES: Hartford becomes the first America East team to record postseason wins in back-to-back seasons... The Hawks victory also marks the first America East win in the WNIT since Vermont recorded two victories in the event back in 2002... With the win, Hartford reaches the 25-win plateau for back-to-back seasons, becoming just the third team in league history to accomplish that feat.
