Vermont will make its first-ever appearance in the postseason National Invitational Tournament tonight when the Catamounts travel to face Kansas State at 8 p.m. in a game televised on ESPNU. Vermont is the seventh seed in the west region of the 32-team bracket, while the Wildcats are second. The Catamounts will take the second longest current road winning streak in the country (13 straight) into the Little Apple.
Wednesday will be the first-ever meeting between the two school in men’s basketball. The last Big 12 school that Vermont faced was Kansas in the season opener in 2004, as the No. 1 Jayhawks just held on to win 68-61. It marks the fourth time in the last five years that the Catamounts will play in a national postseason tournament, after making the NCAA’s for three straight seasons from 2003-05. Vermont won the America East Regular Season Championship with a 15-1 mark, earning the top seed for the conference championship.
