UMBC Men and Women Lead After Day Two of Swimming and Diving Championship

The UMBC men and women hold the lead after two day’s of the 2007 America East Swimming & Diving Championships at Boston University’s Aquatic Center on Thursday evening.

On the men’s side, the Retrievers (313.5 points) extended their lead and Binghamton jumped to second place (252), and Stony Brook follows with 207.5 points. Boston University (153) and host Maine (152) round out the five-team field.

The UMBC women (269) hold their lead over Boston University (232) and New Hampshire (218). With a close battle for fourth place between Maine (155) and Vermont (150), while Stony Brook (119) and Binghamton (119) are tied for sixth place.

Day two of competition featured nice scoring events, with eight swimming events and the women’s three-meter dive.

Binghamton’s David Holmes shattered the previous meet record in the men’s 500 freestyle by six seconds, with a time of 4:22.80.

UMBC’s Meghan Sackett defended her 500 freestyle title with a time of 4:56.45. Brian Koizim of Binghamton won the 200 IM in 1:50.13, while UMBC’s Agnes Stanislawska took first place on the women’s side with a time of 2:03.56. The winners of the 50 freestyle are Binghamton’s Philip Dzieniszewski, 21.22, and UMBC’s Daniele Surkovich, 23.67. Ashley Houghton of UMBC won the women’s three-meter dive, earning 298.85 points. In the final event of the evening, the Stony Brook men and Boston University women took home the 200 freestyle relay titles in 1:24.28 and 1:35.98, respectively. 

Day three of the four-day event continues on Saturday with two sessions of events. The first session of the day gets underway at 10 a.m., followed by the day’s second session at 6 p.m.
