University of Maine's Arel Gordon (Rochester, N.Y.) and University of Vermont's Carmen Lagala (Montpelier,Vt.) have been named America East Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, respectively, while Maine's Khabir Edwards (Portland, Maine) and University of New Hampshire's Erin Moore (Nashua, N.H.) earn Men’s and Women's Field Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (February 6).
Gordon won two individual events as the Black Bears defeated Holy Cross 106-73. In the 55-meters, he tied the school record he set earlier this year with a time of 6.22. He also ran the 200 meters for the first time this season, finishing first in 22.23.
Lagala ran a school-record at Yale, in the 500-meters with a time of 1:13.25, breaking her own mark she set last season. She competed against one of the top runners in the country, Monica Hargrove, who was running as an unattached participant. Hargrove had the best time in the event at 1:09.06, but Lagala was awarded first place because of Hargrove's non-collegiate status. Lagala is 3-0 this season at distances from 400m and longer and is 14-0 in the regular-season races dating back to last season. Lagala time of 1:13.25 is the best in America East this season.
Edwards won the long jump in 21'10" and also was first in the high jump in 6' 4.75", in a dual meet against Holy Cross.
Moore placed first in the weight throw, throwing 50' 0.75", and second in the shot put with 41' 7.75", at Boston University of Monday.
