UMBC’s Ali Levendusky (Baldwin, Md./John Carroll) has earned America East Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors for the first week of the 2007 season, while Stony Brook’s Jen Sandtorv (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) and Albany’s Kayla Best (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) have been named Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced on Monday (February 26).
Levendusky led the Retrievers with seven goals and 11 points in their first three games of the season. She scored two goals and added a career-high four assists for a team-best six points in UMBC’s 23-7 season-opening win over Howard, then scored one goal against sixth-ranked Maryland. Levendusky ended the week with a season-high four goals in UMBC’s 13-5 victory over Bucknell. She picked up three ground balls and won three draw controls on the week, as well.
Sandtorv was instrumental in the Seawolves season-opening win at Colgate. She made 16 saves in the game after being peppered by 38 shots in the contest while scooping up five groundballs.
Best scored in each of her first three games as a collegian with a career-high four goals, including two in each half, against Virginia Tech on Feb. 25. She netted a pair of goals against No. 19 Vanderbilt and also scored in her team’s 16-12 victory at Longwood on Feb. 22.
