Maine’s Ashley Underwood (Benton, Maine/Cony) has been named America East Player of the Week, while Boston University’s Aly Hinton (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock) wins her first-ever America East Rookie of the Week award during week 14. The awards were announced Monday (February 12).
Underwood led the Black Bears to a 2-0 mark on the week and has led the team in scoring in every game during Maine’s current three-game winning streak. The senior guard averaged 24.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.5 apg and 1.5 spg during the week. She netted a career-high 30 points in an eight-point win over Albany fueled by a perfect 14-of-14 shooting from the free-throw line. The perfect shooting from the line matched a Maine record for free-throw percentage in a game. She followed that up with 19 points in a win over Binghamton on Saturday. Underwood earns her first-ever player of the week honor and the first by a Black Bear since Bracey Barker (Bar Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) won the award back in week one.
Hinton averaged 21.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 2.5 apg to lead the Terriers to a split during the week. The freshman forward posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Terriers to a convincing 12-point win over Vermont at Patrick Gym and followed that up with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting in a hard-fought loss to second-place Stony Brook on Saturday. She becomes the first Boston U. player to win rookie of the week since Jesyka Burks-Wiley (Kansas City, Mo./Lincoln College Prep), who won the award four times last season, including the final two weeks of the regular season.

Hartford is 10-1 with its lone loss coming in overtime at Vermont, while Stony Brook is 9-2 with two losses to Hartford. Stony Brook leads their next closest competition (Maine) by three full games, while Hartford has a one-game lead over the Seawolves with a pair of head-to-head wins.
