CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Seven America East women's soccer standouts have been named to the adidas/NSCAA All-Northeast Region squad. Brooke Barbuto (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) from Stony Brook was the lone first-team selection, while two players were second-team choices and four more athletes earned third-team honors. Complete Team.
Barbuto, who earned first-team all-conference honors, led the Seawolves to the league championship semifinals in 2007. Teammate Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) recorded 10 shutouts in goal and had an .878 save percentage. America East Striker of the Year Michelle Sheehan (Belmont/Belmont), who led New Hampshire to a share of the regular-season title and a runner-up finish in the conference tournament, also earned second-team recognition.
Midfielder of the Caitlin Whelan (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) from New Hampshire was named to the third team, while Defender of the Year Casey Brown (Natick, Mass./Natick) from Boston University also earned third-team accolades. Other third-team honorees were Marisha Schumacher Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schneley) from Boston U. and Meagan Riemer (Ellington, Conn./Ellington) from Hartford.
