2007-08 Vermont Catamounts Season Outlook

Who’s Back:

Courtnay Pilypaitis (13.7 ppg, 4.06 apg) was one of the biggest surprises of the 06-07 season. The rookie led the team in scoring and assists, for sixth and third in the conference, respectively. Pilypaitis was the 2007 Rookie of the Year and a unanimous all-rookie also voted to this season’s preseason all-conference.

May Kotsopoulos (10.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg) also stepped up big as a freshman for the Catamounts. She finished second for UVM in scoring and started 29 games. Kotsopoulos was also a unanimous all-rookie, while also garnering all-defensive honors.

Who’s gone:

Brittney Cross dished out the second-most assists in the conference at 4.13 per game. She was also the third-highest scorer on team with the best assist/turnover ratio in the league (1.68). Cross also finished the season second in the league in steals with 71 (2.29 spg).

Newcomers:

Two freshmen forwards--Tonya Young and Kelli Hier--join the Catamount squad. Chelsea Kane, a sophomore from Ingersoll, Ontario will also play for the Catamounts in 2008-09.

Notable:

Fifth-year Head Coach Sharon Dawley signed a four-year contract extension through 2011 during the offseason. Dawley is in her fifth year at UVM.

Vermont found tournament success in 2006-07, winning back-to-back tournaments in November and upsetting 22nd-ranked Boston College, 56-48, at the University of Rhode Island Invitational.
