2007-08 UMBC Retrievers Season Outlook

Who’s Back:

Kristin Drabyn (9.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg) emerged as one of the top three-point shooters in the nation, ranking 81st and 89th in three-point percentage and three-pointers made per game, respectively.

Morgan Hatten (4.4 rpg, 2.2 apg) was fifth on the team in scoring and earned the second-best assist to turnover ratio in the league (1.64) Hatten started 26 games, including 15 conference match-ups.

Who’s gone:

Sharri Rohde was the Retrievers’ iron-woman, never missing a start in her four-year career at UMBC. She finished eighth in league in scoring last season, as well as fifth in league in rebounding. Rohde was named to both the second-team all-conference and all-defensive team. She will return this season as an assistant coach.

Brittnie Hughes averaged 11.5 points per game for second on the team. She finished fourth in the league in assists and steals. Huges did not miss a game last season, while starting in 32.

Newcomers:

Head Coach Phil Stern welcomes five freshmen this year, including two guards, one forward and two forward/centers.

Junior transfer Chantay Frazier from Seminole State College also joined the Retrievers during the offseason.

Notable:

Stern signed a contract extension with UMBC through 2011 during the offseason. He is in his sixth year with the Retrievers.

The Retrievers became the first seven-seed to win the America East Women's Basketball Championship, defeating the one-, two- and three-seeds in the process.

Last year, UMBC played in the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament game, and made their first-ever national TV appearance when the Retrievers fell to UConn in the postseason.
