2007-08 Albany Great Danes Season Outlook

Who’s Back:

Kristin Higy (10.4 ppg, 6.3 rpg) is the Great Danes’ top returning scorer and rebounder, finishing second and first, respectively, in each category last season. She started all 31 games, averaging 31.5 minutes per game.

Sherri Mikus (9.3 ppg, 2.0 apg) was third on the team in scoring, fourth in rebounding, and second in assists while starting all 31 games for the Great Danes last year.

Gia Sanders (6.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg) is the top returning blocker for the Great Danes. She was second in the conference and 67th in the nation in blocks a year ago with 49. Sanders was a 2007 All-Defensive Team pick.

Who’s gone:

Amanda Ward ran the Great Danes’ offense as the leading scorer and team leader in assists. She averaged over 30 minutes per conference game and started all 31 games.

Newcomers:

Albany will welcome two freshmen and two junior college transfers who hope to make an immediate impact in 2007-08.

Notable:

Albany earned its second America East Tournament win ever when the Great Danes defeated New Hampshire, 64-61, in the first round on March 8, 2006.
