Hood and Beliveau Score Big Last Week in Women's Basketball Action

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Hartford's Danielle Hood received the America East Women's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 26.5 points in two games last week, while New Hampshire's Denise Beliveau posted solid stats in the Wildcats' opening week to capture the conference's Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 18. Hartford's senior forward Danielle Hood (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) received America East Player of the Week accolades after averaging 26.5 points per game last week. Against BIG EAST-foe Providence on Tuesday night, Hood put up a season-high 27 points. The senior followed that performance with 26 points against Columbia in the Hawks' home-opener Friday night. Those are the top two individual scoring outputs in the conference this season. Hood also registered 11 boards in the two games, and shot 17-for-31 from the floor and 12-for-22 from the free-throw line. This is the first weekly honor for Hood, a preseason all-conference team member.

New Hampshire's freshman forward Denise Beliveau (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) averaged solid numbers over the Wildcats' first week of play to receive Rookie of the Week recognition. Beliveau averaged 10.7 points and 5.7 rebounds, including a 17-point, eight-rebound performance on Sunday in a win over Tennessee-Martin. In her first collegiate game on Tuesday, the rookie tookaway three steals, and is tied for third in the conference averaging 2.0 steals per game through three contests. Beliveau shot .444 for the week along with .429 behind the arc (6-for-14).

After 23 points Saturday, sophomore Amy Simpson posted 13 points and four assists in the win, earning a spot on the USF Shootout All-Tournament Team... Freshman Denise Beliveau notched 17 points and eight boards.

Colleen Kilmurray led the Black Bears in the loss, putting up team-highs of 15 points and seven rebounds.... Kilmurray also shot 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.

at Vermont 66, St. John's 48
Sophomore Courtnay Pilypaitis was two assists shy of the program's first-ever triple--double (16 pts, 13 rebounds, 8 assists)... The win is the program's first over a BIG EAST school since defeating Providence in 2002.

Saturday, November 17
at Vermont 69, Brown 38

Vermont used a 17-0 run in the second half to open a 32 point lead... Sophomore May Kotsopoulos returned from injury to record 11 points in her season debut.

St. Bonaventure 58, Binghamton 53
Senior Laura Sario led the Bearcats on the stat sheet with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals... Laura Franceski chipped in 12 points from off the bench.

Ohio State 83, at Boston University 68

The #16 Buckeyes went on a 22-8 run to end the game... Four Terriers scored in double-digits, including a career-high 23 points from senior Cheri Raffo.

at South Florida 72, New Hampshire 56

Sophomore Amy Simpson led the Wildcats with 23 points... Simpson hit three-straight three-pointers to open the second half and went 5-for-12 in the game.

Friday, November 16
at Hartford 57, Columbia 33

Senior Danielle Hood scored 26 points and has averaged 26.5 points over the last two games... Sophomore Erica Beverly, 2006 Rookie of the Year, is averaging 17 minutes per game after redshirting last season.

Marist 65, at Stony Brook 54

The Seawolves played four games in seven days and now have eight days off before they play again... Stony Brook shot 50% in the second half.

James Madison 74, at UMBC 61

Melissa Book, the America East Player of the Game, went 4-for-4 from three-point range... Chantay Frazier and Book each scored a team-high 14 points.

Game one of the women's-men's double-header against former America East rival... The Terriers lead the all-time series, 35-30.

Hartford at Brigham Young 6:30 p.m.

BYU is receiving nine votes in the national poll... The Hawks upended BYU, 60-43, in Hartford last year while the Cougars were ranked 22nd nationally.

The Bearcats have three players--Laine Kurpniece, Laura Franceski, and Laura Sario--averaging double-digit points... This is Binghamton's third of four-straight road games to open the season.

The Retrievers return to the road for just the second time this season to face their second consecutive Colonial Athletic Association team.
