VESTAL, N.Y.-- Jordan Crasilneck scored in the 25th minute and Roger Scully made five saves to help Vermont capture the 2007 America East Men's Soccer Championship crown with a win over Binghamton on Saturday evening in front of 2,087 fans in Vestal, N.Y. The Catamounts, who are unbeaten in their last seven games and have posted seven straight shutouts, edged the Bearcats, 1-0, to earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.
The game's lone goal came with 19:22 left in the first half, when Crasilneck took a pass from Tyler Hasman in the middle of the box and struck the ball into the lower left-hand corner of the net from 15 yards out. Binghamton (14-6) had several chances in the second half, Scully, who was named the championship's Most Outstanding Player, made several key saves, including two in the final five minutes
The Catamounts (9-9-2), who captured their fourth title and first since 2000, will find out their NCAA opponent on Monday, November 19 between 5:30 and 6 p.m. The selection show will be broadcast on ESPNews.
Scully was joined on the all-championship team by teammates Crasilneck and Jake McFadden, Darren McAllister, Barry Neville and Jason Stenta from Binghamton, Derek Puerta from Boston University, Andreas Blamo from Hartford, Phillippe Bissohong and Dan Bulls from UMBC, and Chris Banks and A.J. DuBois from New Hampshire.
