Four Freshmen Take Home Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--UMBC's Brad Reitz and University of Vermont's Kate Weaver earned weekly honors as America East Men's and Women's Swimming Performers of the Week, while UMBC's Mike Morabito and Crystal Gall were named America East Men's and Women's Diving Performers of the Week. The conference made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon for the week ending November 12.

Freshman Reitz (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) was a part of four of the Retrievers' 14 victories as they rolled over Towson, 160-107, last Saturday. The freshman turned in winning times of 51.89 and 1:57.06 in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events to lead Retriever sweeps in both events and also swam legs on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays, which turned in times of 1:36.45 and 3:10.99. Reitz is unbeaten in the 100 butterfly this season, recording first place victories on four different occasions.

Freshman Weaver (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) continued her stellar freshman season this weekend, helping the Catamounts go 2-1. On Saturday she won the 100 (59.04) and 200 (2:05.61) backstroke events over both Drexel and Delaware. She was also victorious in the 100 butterfly (1:00.17) against Drexel and was a member of the 200-medley relay that defeated Delaware. On Sunday she took first in the 200 IM (2:11.81) and the 200 backstroke (2:04.56). The win in the 200 backstroke set a new Lehigh pool record, breaking the previous mark of 2:06.91.

Freshman Morabito (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) picked up his first collegiate win in the meet against Towson as he turned in a score of 216.15 on the one-meter board. Morabito was also runner-up in the three-meter, posting a season-best score of 220.88 on the board.

Freshman Gall (Balgonie, Saskatchewan, Canada/Dr. Martin LeBoldus) swept the diving events in the Retrievers' meet against Towson on Saturday, recording scores of 246.07 and 254.55 on the one- and three-meter boards, respectively.

Team Results:

Binghamton

The Binghamton swimming and diving squads dropped their respective dual meets against Atlantic-10 opponent UMass on Sunday afternoon at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center. The visiting Minutemen won 22 of 32 events as their men were victorious by a 171-129 margin and their women came out on top by a score of 192-108. [Binghamton Story]

Next up for the Terriers is their annual BU Invitational from Nov. 17-19.

Maine
The University of Maine swimming and diving team split a dual meet with Stony Brook University Saturday, as the women won 175-125 while the men fell 177-118. [Maine Story]

The University of Maine swimming and diving team swept a dual meet against Fairfield University Sunday afternoon. The women's team is now 3-0 on the season after beating the Stags 163-80. The men's team picked up their first win of the season 138-102, improving their season record to 1-2. [Maine Story]

UMBC
The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving team split Saturday’s meet with Towson. The men were victorious by a score of 160-107, while the women fell, 171-122. [UMBC Story]

New Hampshire
The University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team placed first in 12-of-13 events to swim past Central Connecticut State University, 140-96, Saturday afternoon at Swasey Pool. The Wildcats are now 6-0 overall, including 2-0 in the conference. [New Hampshire Story]

Stony Brook
The Stony Brook men's swimming and diving team lost to Fordham Wednesday night 140-103, despite three 1st place finishes by Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland). [Stony Brook Story]

The Stony Brook women's swimming and diving team failed to overcome an early deficit to the Maine Black Bears Saturday, as they fell, 175-125 at University Pool. The men's team jumped out to quick lead and never looked back, as they beat the Black Bears 177-118. [Stony Brook Story]

Vermont
The University of Vermont swimming and diving team split on Saturday afternoon, defeating Drexel 191-106 while falling to host Delaware 191-109. [Vermont Story]

The University of Vermont swimming and diving team had a 149-92 win on the road over Lehigh on Sunday afternoon. The Catamounts improve to 4-5 with the win, as they went 2-1 on the weekend. [Vermont Story]
