New Hampshire, UMBC Advance to Men's Soccer Championship Semifinals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- New Hampshire and UMBC both advanced to the semifinals of 2007 America East Men's Soccer Championship in penalty kick shootouts on Saturday.

Sixth-seeded New Hampshire (5-4-8) played third-seeded Boston University (9-6-3) to a 0-0 tie through 110 minutes of play. The Wildcats converted all four of the their kicks to the Terriers two and advanced to the semifinals for the second straight season. New Hampshire will face second-seeded Vermont in the championship semifinals on Wednesday, November 14 at 1:30 p.m. in Burlington.

Fifth-seeded UMBC (8-5-4) tied fourth-seeded Hartford (7-4-7) 1-1 and moved on to the next round by winning the shootout, 5-4. Andreas Blamo, a second-team all-conference selection, gave the Hawks a lead in the 27 minute. The Retrievers tied the score five minutes into the second half on Dan Bulls' first goal of the season. Bull also converted the deciding kick to send his team to the semifinals. UMBC will take on top-seeded Binghamton on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Vestal.

The America East Championship game will be played on Saturday, November 17 or Sunday, November 18 at the home field of the highest remaining seed.
