CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Stony Brook University's Lukasz Ochmanski and University of New Hampshire's Amy Perrault earned weekly honors as America East Men's and Women's Swimming Performers of the Week. Stony Brook University's Julian Acevado and University of New Hampshire's Shana Dege were named America East Men's and Women's Diving Performers of the Week.
Stony Brook freshman Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland/Koscluszko Mem.) was one of the big contributors in last week's win over Boston College, winning three individual events and setting a school and pool record in the process. Ochmanski came up big in his first event, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in a school/pool record time of 9:34.42, winning the race by an impressive 40 seconds. He also took first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.51) and the 200 IM (1:58.53) to help the Seawolves to their first victory of the season.
For the second week in a row freshman Perrault (Kirkland Lake, Ontario/Catholique Jean-Vanier) placed first in all events swam to lead the University of New Hampshire Wildcats past America East preseason favorite UMBC, 156-142, on Sunday afternoon. To begin the day Perrault started off UNH's 200-yard medley relay, leading the relay team to a Swasey Pool record time of 1:47.21. Perrault went on to place first in the 100-yard backstroke (57.22) and the 200 back with a time of 2:07.44. She finished up the meet with a 200-yard individual medley victory, timing in at 2:08.19.
Acevado (Long Island City, N.Y./Newcomers) did his part in helping Stony Brook to the dual meet win over Boston College, winning both diving events by wide margins. In the one-meter event he took first with 323.40 points, winning by over 140 points. He continued his strong showing in the three-meter competition, scoring 349.87 points to take the win by over 150 points.
In what was a close meet with UMBC, Dege (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) stepped up to take first place in both diving events to secure the lead, allowing for the first-ever head-to-head win (156-142) over the America East preseason favorite Retrievers. Dege took first in the one-meter dive with 258.75 points, which was more than 13 points ahead of the second place diver. In the 14th event (16 event meet), Dege secured the Wildcat win with a first-place score of 251.25 in the three-meter.
