Five UAlbany Softball Student Athletes Honored by NFCA

Albany, N.Y. ? The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has honored five UAlbany student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom in the 2006-07 academic year, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Nicole Kothe, Amber Maisonet, Kelly Ogden, Laura Gremillion and Bailey Van Deest all earned NFCA Scholar-Athlete recognition. Ogden, a 2007 graduate with a degree in psychology and sociology, finished her career ranked at the top of several of UAlbany career charts. Ogden was first in hits (202), home runs (26), RBI (156) and doubles (38). Maisonet, a psychology major with a minor in mathematics, will return to the Great Danes in the spring after leading UAlbany with a .382 average last season. Kothe, a sophomore psychology major, is back after hitting .297 a year ago. Van Deest, who started 46 games in the outfield for the Great Danes last season, is a sophomore political science major. Gremillion saw action in 34 games as a junior, and is majoring in biology.

The NFCA recognizes student-athletes who achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above.
