DURHAM,
N.H. ? In an
effort to raise money and awareness to help fight breast cancer, the University
of New Hampshire volleyball team will participate in the “Dig for the Cure”
event during their Oct. 28 match against Binghamton University. Match time is 1
p.m. at Lundholm Gymnasium.
This year
marks the first time UNH joins in the nationwide cause, as the Wildcats are
among over 60 volleyball programs across the country participating in the
event.
The
foundation was started in 2003 by former UNC Charlotte volleyball coach Lisa
Marston after her mother survived breast cancer. Over the last three years
Marston’s team along with many other programs across the country have raised
more than $36,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Marston’s
goal is to raise $200,000 towards the foundation this year and is encouraging
anyone interested to help the cause. Fans wishing to donate can leave cash or
checks (made out to “Susan G. Komen Foundation”) in the donation boxes during
the event or mail them into the volleyball office at 145 Main St., Durham, NH
03824.
