CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- The Binghamton men's soccer team moved up in the regional rankings and also received a vote in the national poll, while the women's soccer programs at New Hampshire, Boston University and Stony Brook were all recognized in both regional polls this week.
Binghamton (11-3-0) posted shutout victories over Colgate and Maine last week. The Bearcats climbed to fourth in the NSCAA/adidas Northeast Coaches' Poll, which was released Tuesday, after being ranked sixth last week. They also received one vote in the National Poll. Boston University (8-5-1) entered the regional rankings in the 10th spot after receiving votes last week. The Terriers went unbeaten in two games, earning a 1-1 double-overtime tie against Albany on October 17 and posting a 2-1 victory over Stony Brook on October 20.
The top three teams in the America East women's soccer standings were once again ranked regionally in both polls released Tuesday. New Hampshire (10-5-1) entered the NSCAA Poll in the ninth spot and were voted 13th in the Soccer Buzz Regional Poll. The Wilcats snapped Hartford's 15-game unbeaten streak against league competition on October 21 and also downed Maine on October 18. Boston University (8-6-2) moved up three spots in the Soccer Buzz Poll to number nine and dropped one spot to 10th in the NSCAA rankings. After entering the NSCAA Poll in the 10th position last week, Stony Brook (7-3-5) received votes this week. The Seawolves, who tied Binghamton on October 18 and fell to Boston U. on October 21, dropped to 10th in the Soccer Buzz rankings.
America East field hockey teams stayed put in the NFHCA/STX Division I Poll released Tuesday. Boston University (13-5) remained 14th, while Albany (13-4) was ranked 16th for the third consecutive week. The Terriers, who fell to sixth-ranked Connecticut, 3-2, on October 16, took over sole possession of first place in the conference standings with a 3-1 win over the Great Danes on October 20. Albany downed Rutgers, 2-1, on October 21. Vermont (12-5) received 12 votes after a pair of 1-0 victories over Maine and Columbia, respectively.
With the America East Cross Country Championship hosted by Stony Brook coming up this Saturday, the five squads that were recognized last week, were ranked in the same respective positions this week. The Lady Seawolves were ranked fourth in the Women's Northeast Region, while New Hampshire was ninth and Boston University 10th. The men from New Hampshire and Boston University are ranked 11th and 14th, respectively, in the Northeast Poll for the second straight week.
