CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - New Hamphshire's Shaunna Kaplan earned America East Player of the Week honors for the week ending October 21, while UMBC's Ashley Singer garnered Rookie of the Week accolades. For complete release click here.
 
Kaplan, who is the third different Wildcat to earn player of the week honors this season, scored in the 35th minute to give her team a 1-0 victory over Hartford on Sunday. The win guaranteed UNH one of the top two seeds in the America East Championship and a first-round bye.
 
Singer scored UMBC's first goal in a 2-1 victory over Vermont on Sunday. The goal was the Retriever's first in seven games and helped them snap a six-game losing streak.

Albany (4-8-3, 1-5-0 America East) dropped their only contest of the week, a 3-1 loss at Vermont on on Oct. 18... Ashley Tirabassi (Cambridge, Ontario/Monsignor Doyle) scored the only UAlbany goal, an unassisted shot from 25 yards out to pull the Great Danes within one in the 56th minute... The Catamounts held a 19-17 edge in shots... Maria Liguori (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) played all 90 minutes in goal for UAlbany, making four saves... Freshmen Teresa Boring (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) and Melissa McGinley (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) have started all 15 games for the Great Danes in their first seasons... UAlbany will next play on Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. when they host America East Conference foe Hartford.
 
Binghamton (2-10-3, 1-4-1 America East) recorded a tie and a loss in two games last week.... On Thursday, the Bearcats earned a 1-1 draw against Stony Brook... Three days later, Binghamton was blanked at Maine 2-0... Junior forward Charlotte Foster (Rochester,N.Y./Pittsford-Sutherland) scored her first career goal in the 48th minute to stake the Bearcats to a 1-0 lead. Stony Brook scored the equalizer eight minutes later. Sophomore keeper Jen McEachron (Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Falls) made seven saves in her first collegiate start... At Maine, the Bearcats put 10 shots on goal, including eight in the second half, but the Black Bears scored twice in a 3:21 span early in the second half... Binghamton is clinging to sixth place in the America East standings, one point ahead of Albany,
UMBC and Vermont. The four teams are battling for the sixth and final playoff spot with two games remaining in the regular season.
 
Boston University (8-6-2, 5-1-0 America East) defeated Stony Brook, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in Stony Brook, N.Y... The win snapped the Seawolves' 10-game unbeaten streak... Senior Christina Reuter (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) made 14 saves to earn the shutout and was one stop shy of tying a single-game record for saves... Sophomore Emily Pallotta (Andover, Mass./Andover) netted the game-winning goal in the 10th minute, and junior Shannon Mullen (Dallas, Texas/Greenhill) and freshman Stephanie Croghan (McLean, Va./Potomac) added insurance goals... On Thursday, Boston U. suffered its first conference loss of the season when it was edged, 1-0, by Hartford at Nickerson Field... The Hawks netted the game-winning goal in the 56th minute and withstood the Terriers' offensive pressure for the remaining 34 minutes.
 
Hartford (5-6-4, 3-1-2 America East) split games against Boston University and New Hampshire last week. The Hawks pulled out a 1-0 victory at BU before falling by the same margin at home to first-place UNH... Senior Sara Flowers (Santee, Calif./Santana/Cal Poly Pomona) netted the game-winning goal against the Terriers in the 56th minute. It was her first goal of the season. Classmate Elizabeth Cook (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Halifax Grammar) made three saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season... The loss to New Hampshire snapped a 15-game unbeaten streak against conference opponents... Hartford will wrap up regular season play this week with games at Albany and at home against Vermont. Flowers, Cook, Meagan Riemer (Ellington, Conn./Ellington/Sacred Heart) and Maja Siosteen (Vaxholm, Sweden/Danerdyds Gymnasium) will be honored in a senior day ceremony prior to kickoff.
 
Maine (5-6-3, 3-2-1 America East) went 1-1 this past week, including a 2-1 setback at New Hampshire on Thursday and a 2-0 triumph over Binghamton on Sunday ... Sunday’s victory snapped a three-game winless streak for the Black Bears ... Laura Harper (Nepean, Ontario/Mother Teresa H.S.) had a goal and an assist in the win over the Bearcats ... Harper’s tally came off a header from a corner kick by Kim Stephenson (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy H.S.) ... Harper’s assist came when her shot deflected off the Binghamton goalkeeper and towards Hannah Breton (Greenville, Maine/Greenville H.S.) who sent it into the net for Maine’s second goal of the game ... Laura Martel (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston H.S.) scored Maine’s lone goal in Thursday’s game against UNH ... It was her team-leading fifth of the season ... Maine closes out the regular season with two games this week, beginning on Thursday at Vermont (3 p.m.) and Sunday at home versus Stony Brook (12 p.m.).
 
New Hampshire (10-5-1, 6-1-0 America East) went 2-0-0 this week, using a pair of late goals to come from behind and beat Maine at home, 2-1 Oct. 18, and holding Hartford scoreless on the road Oct. 21 to beat the Hawks, 1-0 ... The wins guarantee the Wildcats a top-two spot in the standings, and clinch them a first-round bye in the America East Championships ... Sophomore Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) used a great individual effort after intercepting a ball in her offensive zone, to score the lone goal of the game versus Hartford ... Sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Golding (Milton, Mass./Milton) stopped all five shots she faced to post her third shutout of the season, improve her record to 6-1-1, and lower her nationally-ranked goals-against-average to 0.61 ... Senior midfielder Marianne Rivard (West Kingston, R.I./LaSalle Academy) headed home her third game-winning goal of the season off a beautiful corner from freshman midfielder Amy Avitabile (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke), to sink the Black Bears ... Junior midfielder Michelle Sheehan (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) pulled the ?Cats even when freshman Cassandra Guerra (DeWitt, N.Y./DeWitt) and fellow junior Caitlin Whelan (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) set up her eighth goal of the season ... The goal tied her for most in the conference, and moved her into first place in the conference in points (18), while Whelan’s sixth assist moved her into a first-place tie in the conference in that category ... Sophomore goalkeeper Ally Yost (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) made four saves to earn the win.
 
Stony Brook (7-3-5, 4-1-2 America East) fell to Boston University 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in their home finale, ending their 10-game unbeaten streak. Sophomore goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) had her scoreless streak ended at 863:33 on Thursday night against Binghamton. The streak ended as the seventh longest in NCAA Division I women’s history. The loss to Binghamton on Sunday was the Seawolves only loss at home in eight games this season. The Seawolves trailed in the second half against Binghamton, the first time it was behind since a loss to Georgetown on September 9th.

Vermont (2-13-1, 1-5-0 America East) snapped a 13-game winless streak and earned its first league win of the year with a 3-1 victory over Albany on Oct. 18 at Centennial Field... Sophomore Carson Laderoute (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) lead the Catamounts with a goal and two assists ... She has tallied 10 points in the last six games ... Vermont also improved to 8-1-0 versus the Great Danes in the all-time series ... Vermont dropped its second game of the week, falling at UMBC, 2-1 on Sunday ... The Catamounts close out the regular season hosting Maine on Thursday (Oct. 25) at 2:30 p.m. and then traveling to Hartford for a Sunday (Oct. 28) match at 2 p.m.
 
UMBC (2-11-2, 1-5-0 America East) snapped a nine-game winless streak with a 2-1 home victory over Vermont on Oct. 21... The win was the Retrievers’ first since a 3-0 triumph over Howard on Sept. 12 and ended an 0-7-2 stretch... The victory was also UMBC’s first against an America East foe since a 4-0 win over Albany on Oct. 9, 2005... In the 35th minute, freshman forward Ashley Singer (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) collected a cross from freshman midfielder Megan McDonald (Wyoming, Pa./Dallas) and sent the ball into the upper-left corner of the net for her team-best fourth goal of the season... The goal was the Retrievers’ first since the 80th minute at Sacred Heart on Sept. 21, a span of seven games and more than 600 minutes... With the scored tied in the 75th minute, senior forward Jessica Young (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) sent a cross to sophomore forward Michelle Worrest (Germantown, Md./Northwest), and with her back to the goal, Worrest kicked the ball over her shoulder and into the upper-right corner for her first goal of the season and what proved to be the game-winner... UMBC’s 25 shots on the day were a season high... Ten of the Retrievers’ 12 goals and 23 of their 33 points this season have been scored by freshmen... Young’s ranks fifth all-time at UMBC with 24 career goals, and her assist against Vermont gave her sole possession of sixth place with 56 career points... The Retrievers play three games this week, closing out their non-conference schedule at home against Pennsylvania on Oct. 23, then traveling to Binghamton on Oct. 25 before returning home for the season finale against Albany on Oct. 28.
