CAMBRIDGE, Mass--University of Vermont's Doug Maisey and University of New Hampshire's Cathy Parker were named America East Cross Country Men's and Women's Performers of the Week for their strong performances this past weekend.
Maisey (Gwynedd Valley, PA/Wissahickon) led the Vermont men's cross country team to a sweep of the St. Michael's College Invitational. As a sophomore, he finished first in the men's race with a time of 26:32 over the 8K course. It was th fourth straight year University of Vermont has swept the race.
Parker's (Westford, Mass.) eighth-place showing in the 278-runner field at the Penn State Nationals helped the Wildcats finish 13th in the 25-team field Oct. 12. Racing against some of the top runners and schools in the country, including 17th-ranked Duke, No. 21 West Virginia and No. 30 Penn State, Parker finished the 6K course in a time of 21 minutes, 22 seconds, only nine seconds behind sixth-place finisher Bridget Franek of Penn State.

Albany
Ricardo Estremera finished second overall in a personal best time of 24:49.2 over the 8,000-meter course to lead the Great Danes at the 41st Annual UAlbany Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Laura Cummings was the top finisher for the UAlbany women, placing 16th overall in a time of 18:13.4 on the 5,000-meter women’s course. Binghamton
Freshman Ashley Horton's (Candor, N.Y.) 10th place finish paced the Binghamton Cross Country teams at the 41st annual Albany Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The women placed fifth out of 29 teams while the men were 19 out of 26 teams. Sophomore John Carroll (Ithaca, N.Y.) was the top men's finisher as he placed 76th out of 228 runners in the men's race, finishing the 8,000-meter course in a time of 27:05. [Binghamton Story]
Boston University
Boston University's women are currently ranked 11th in the Northeast Regional Rankings, while the men are currently ranked 14th. The Terriers' next race will be the America East Championships on Oct. 27 in Long Island.
Hartford
The Hawks will next run at the Central Connecticut State University mini meet on October 20, the final warm-up before the America East Championships.
Maine
Both teams return to action in two weeks on Oct. 27, when they compete in the 2007 America East Championships in Sunken Meadow, N.Y.
UMBC
Junior Alex Hyland (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South/St. Francis (Pa.) was the top overall finisher in the women’s 6K course at the William and Mary Tribe Open on Saturday. On the men’s side, freshman Paul Zwama (Groningen, Netherlands/CSG Dingstede) was the top Retriever finisher for the third time this season, as he finished the 8K course in a time of 25:11.00 for a 13th place finish. The men’s and women’s cross country teams faced competition from James Madison, Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia, Richmond, Norfolk State, and host William and Mary among others, though the race did not have team scoring. New Hampshire
Senior Cathy Parker (Westford, Mass.) finished eighth overall, but it wasn’t enough as the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team placed 13th in the 25-team field at the Penn State Nationals on Friday. Stony Brook
Sophomore Jessica Hampson (Smithtown, N.Y.) finished 43rd out of 235 runners to lead the Stony Brook women's cross country team to a 14th place finish in the White Race at the 2007 Pre-Nationals Meet hosted by Indiana State on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Seawolves are currently ranked 4th in the Northeast Women's Regional Rankings.
