Boston University Sweeps Women's Soccer Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Marisha Schumacher-Hodge of Boston University was named America East Player of the Week Monday. Teammate Stephanie Croghan was selected Rookie of the Week. CLICK HERE FOR FULL RELEASE.

Schumacher-Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) scored a goal and added two assists as the Terriers posted a pair of wins. She had two assists, including her helper on the game-winning goal in a 3-1 win at Maine Thursday. She scored the game-winner in a 2-0 win over UMBC Sunday.

Croghan (McLean, Va./Potomac) scored a goal in each of the Terriers’ wins last week. She had an insurance goal in the 68th minute as Boston University won, 3-1, at Maine on Thursday. She also scored in the 16th minute of a 2-0 win over UMBC on Sunday.

TEAM NOTES
Albany Great Danes
UAlbany (4-7-3, 1-4-0 America East) split a pair of conference matches last week... The Great Danes defeated conference foe Binghamton, 3-1, on Oct. 11 for the first time in program history... UAlbany was 0-11 all-time against the Bearcats before the victory... Ashley Tirabassi tallied the first goal of the contest and of her sophomore campaign... Freshman forward Teresa Boring scored what would hold up as the game-winner at the 48:40 mark for her eighth goal of the season... Junior Diana Barrera earned a pair of assists in the win for a team-leading total of three...Barrera now has six career assists, tying her for fourth on the career assists list... Freshman midfielder Caitlin Mulligan tallied the third goal of the game and the first in her career... Senior midfielder Uju Ogbuawa earned her second assist of the season and seventh of her career to move her into a tie for second in career assists in program history... She also has moved up to a tie for sixth in career points with 25... UAlbany fell to Stony Brook, 1-0, on Oct. 14... Maria Liguori had nine saves in the contest... The Great Danes will next play at Vermont on Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.

Binghamton Bearcats

Binghamton (2-9-2, 1-3 AE) dropped its only game of the week - a 3-1 setback at Albany. The loss was the first-ever against Great Danes, snapping the Bearcats' 11-game win streak against their longtime SUNY rival... Sophomore midfielder Amanda Casares (Rayway, N.J./Rahway) scored Binghamton's lone goal - her second of the season... Senior foward Kim Povill (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) continues to lead the team in scoring with four goals and 13 points... Senior forward Danielle White (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) has four goals and 11 points... With four games remaining, Binghamton is in danger of missing the America East tournament for the first time since 2003.

Boston University Terriers
Backed by goals from junior Marisha Schumacher-Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) and freshman Stephanie Croghan (McLean, Va./Potomac) Boston University (7-5-2, 4-0-0 America East) extended its unbeaten streak to five games, as it defeated UMBC, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field. Sophomore Farrell McClernon (West Chester, Pa./Merion Mercy) assisted on both goals, and senior Christina Reuter (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) earned the shutout with two saves... The Terriers defeated Maine, 3-1, in Orono, Maine last Thursday... Junior defender Shannon Mullen (Dallas, Texas/Greenhill) scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute, while sophomore Casey Brown (Natick, Mass./Natick) tallied her third goal in as many games.... Croghan added an insurance goal in the 68th minute... Reuter made four saves to earn the win... BU will host defending America East champion Hartford on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Nickerson Field.

Hartford Hawks
Hartford (4-5-4 overall, 2-0-2 America East) remained undefeated in conference play with a 1-0 win at UMBC and a 1-1 draw against Maine last week. Junior Kacey Busque (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) scored the game-winning goal against the Retrievers in the 80th minute. Senior Elizabeth Cook (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Halifax Grammar) made four saves in the contest to record her fifth consecutive shutout... Against Maine, the Hawks fell behind 1-0 in the first half on an own goal. Senior Meagan Riemer (Ellington, Conn./Ellington) tied the game in the second half with her second tally of the season, and neither team could find the back of the net in overtime... Busque leads the team in scoring with four goals and one assist for nine points, tying her career-high point total from her rookie season in 2005... Hartford will square off against second-place Boston University and third-place New Hampshire this week. The Terriers are the only team without a loss or a tie in conference play.

Maine Black Bears
Maine (4-5-3, 2-1-1 America East) went 0-1-1 this past week, including a 3-1 loss to Boston University on Thursday and a 1-1 tie at Hartford on Sunday ... Christine LaBelle (Nepean, Ontario/Mother Teresa H.S.) scored Maine’s lone goal against the Terriers, while an own goal was credited as Maine’s tally on Sunday against Hartford ... The Black Bears are 4-2-2 in their last eight games, with all four wins coming via shutouts ... Maine has yielded a goal or less in five of its last eight contests ... Maine returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Durham, N.H., to face New Hampshire at 3 p.m. ... The Black Bears return home to Alumni Field in Orono on Sunday when they take on Binghamton at 12 p.m.

UMBC Retrievers
UMBC (1-11-2, 0-5-0 America East) was shut out twice last week and has now lost six in a row... The Retrievers have not scored since the 80th minute of a 1-1 tie with Sacred Heart on Sept. 21, a span of more than 575 minutes... UMBC and Hartford kept the game scoreless for most of the game before the Hawks broke through with a goal in the 80th minute... Junior goalie Christine Bacinski (Hampstead, Md./Mount de Sales) made nine saves in two games... Nine of the Retrievers’ 10 goals and 20 of their 27 points this season have been scored by freshmen... Forward Ashley Singer (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) leads the team with three goals and six points... Senior forward Jessica Young (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) is the lone upperclassmen with a goal this year... Young ranks fifth all-time at UMBC with 24 career goals, and she is tied for sixth with 55 career points... The Retrievers play just one game this week, hosting America East rival Vermont on Oct. 21.

New Hampshire Wildcats
New Hampshire (8-5-1, 4-1-0 America East) went 1-1-0 this past week, dropping a close battle on the road to Stony Brook, 1-0, and then edging Vermont on the road, 2-1 ... Senior back and co-captain Caitlyn Serafine (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) tallied a goal and an assist to help the Wildcats edge the Catamounts on Oct. 18 ... Junior midfielder Julie O’Shaughnessy (Manchester, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) scored the game-winning goal in the Vermont game, the second goal of her career and second in three games ... Junior forward Caitlin Whelan (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) tallied a pair of assists in the Vermont game to give her 15 points on the season, one behind teammate Michelle Sheehan (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) who is second in the conference in that category ... Sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Golding (Milton, Mass.) made six saves to get the win against Vermont ... Sophomore goalkeeper Ally Yost (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) recorded four saves in the Wildcats’ 1-0 loss to Stony Brook.

Stony Brook Seawolves

Stony Brook (7-2-4, 4-0-1 America East) posted a pair of 1-0 wins last week. Goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) and the Seawolves defense have now posted eight straight shutouts, breaking the previous program record of four. Viola has not allowed a goal in 814:38, the 12th longest scoreless streak in Division I women's history. Stony Brook has 11 shutouts this season, breaking the previous program record of eight set in 1988. The Seawolves are also unbeaten in nine straight games, breaking the record of eight set from the end of 1985 season to the beginning of 1986. Trine Allenberg's (Roberts, Wis./Woodbury) goal now gives her eight points on the season, taking over the team lead.

Vermont Catamounts

Vermont (1-12-1, 0-4-0 America East) dropped two games last week ... The Catamounts fell, 2-0, at Harvard in the final non-conference game of the year and 2-1 to New Hampshire on Sunday ... Sophomore Carson Laderoute (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) scored Vermont’s goal against the Wildcats ... UVM had several excellent opportunities at goal in the closing minutes of the contest but could not find the back of the net ... Laderoute is tied with freshman Jessica Becker (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional) for the team lead in goals with three ... Becker has added three assists and leads the team in scoring with nine points ... Sophomore goalkeeper Eliza Bradley (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) ranks 13th among Division I goalkeepers in saves per game (7.75) ... All three of Vermont’s losses at home have been by one goal and UVM has lost to the top three teams in the league standings by one goal each (Stony Brook 1-0; Boston U 1-0; New Hampshire 2-1) ... The Catamounts host Albany on Thursday (Oct. 18) at 3:00pm and then travel to UMBC for a game on Sunday (Oct. 21) at 1:00pm.
