Terriers Take the Cross Country Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Boston University's senior Andrea Walkonen (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant High School) and fellow Terrier Eric Ashe (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) received America East Cross Country Women's and Men's Performer of the Week for the week ending October 8.

Walkonen finished first at this weekend's New England Championships in Franklin Park, Massachusetts. She recorded a blazing 17:36 finish time in the 5K race, leading the women to a third-place finish. Walkonen has finished each of her three races this season in first-place. Over the course of her three races this season, Walkonen has finished a combined 2:09 ahead of second-place finishers.

Ashe was the first member of the men's team to cross, finishing 11th overall with a 25:30 finish time in the 8K race. Ashe led the Terrier men to a ninth place finish out of 43 teams at the New England Championships.

Albany
The UAlbany cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the 41st UAlbany Invitational. The women’s race starts at 10 a.m., while the men’s race has a 10:45 a.m. start time.

Binghamton
Binghamton will return to action on Oct. 13 at the Albany Invitational.

Boston University
The Boston University women's and men's cross country teams finished third and ninth, respectively, at the New England Cross Country Championship at Franklin Park on Saturday. The women are currently ranked 9th and the men ranked 13th in the 2007 Division I Northeast Regional Rankings for week 3 ending October 8. [Boston Story]

Hartford
The University of Hartford men’s and women’s cross country teams ran at the New England Championships on Saturday afternoon. The women’s team finished in 33rd place overall, out of 44 teams, while the men’s team finished in 38th place overall out of 43 teams. The Hawks will next run at the Central Connecticut State University mini meet on October 20, the final warm-up before the America East Championships. [Hartford Story]

Maine
The University of Maine men's and women's cross country teams competed at the New England Championships on Saturday in Boston, Mass. The women's team finished 11th out of 44 teams, while the men placed 19th out of 43. [Maine Story]

UMBC
The Retrievers will travel to Williamsburg, Va. For the William and Mary Tribe Invitational on Oct. 13.

New Hampshire

UNH women's cross country ranked 12th, while the men ranked 10th in the 2007 Division I Northeast Regional Rankings for week 3 ending October 8. UNH will return to action Oct. 12 at the Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pa.

Stony Brook
The Stony Brook women's cross country team received votes in the USTFCCCA Division I poll released Tuesday, just the second time that has happened since the Seawolves made the move to Division I. The Seawolves, ranked 3rd in the Northeast Region again for week 3 ending October 8. The Seawolves will return to action at the Central Connecticut State University mini meet on October 20.

Vermont
Two freshmen and two sophomores scored for the University of Vermont women’s cross country team at the New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Vermont returns to action on Friday, October 12, when they compete at the Saint Michael’s Invitational in nearby Colchester, Vt. The Catamounts have won the race three of the last four years.
