CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Maine sophomore forward Laura Martel, who had a pair of goals in the win over Albany, and Stony Brook sophomore goalkeeper Marisa Viola, who extended her streak of consecutive shutout minutes to 451:47, were named America East Co-Players of the Week. Martel (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) scored two goals in Maine’s 4-0 win at Albany on Sunday. It is the second time in three games she has scored multiple goals.
Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) extended her streak of scoreless minutes to 451:47 with two more shutouts this week. She made 11 saves in a 0-0 draw with Manhattan on Wednesday and had one save in the 3-0 win over UMBC on Sunday.
Gallegos (Lakewood, Calif./Mayfair) scored her first collegiate goal in the 65th minute to give Boston University a 1-0 win over Vermont on Sunday in the conference opener for both schools.

ALBANY GREAT DANES
UAlbany (3-4-3, 0-1-0 America East) earned a tie with crosstown-rival Siena on Wednesday, Sept. 26... Teresa Boring notched her sixth and seveth goals of the season in the 2-2 tie... Boring has scored the Great Danes last six goals and has twice been named America East Conference Rookie of the Week... Uju Ogbuawa and Ashley Tirabassi earned assists in the tie... Diana Barerra is second on the team in scoring with three goals and an assist... Sophomore Maria Liguori has played all 892 minutes in goal for UAlbany this season... Liguori made a season-high 12 saves in the Siena game... The Great Danes dropped their conference opener to Maine, 4-0, on Sunday, Sept. 30... Liguori made nine saves in the loss...UAlbany will continue conference play on Thursday, Oct. 4 when they host Boston University at 3 p.m. at Varsity Field.
BINGHAMTON BEARCATS
Binghamton (1-7-2, 0-1-0 America East) split a pair of games during the week, earning the team's first win of the season before dropping the conference opener on the road. On Tuesday, the Bearcats rallied with three second-half goals to defeat NJIT 3-1. The win was the 100th for head coach Jeff Leightman, who is 100-60-19 (61%) in his 10th year at the helm. Senior forward Danielle White (Haddon Township, N.J./HaddonTownship) collected a goal and an assist and Binghamton outshot its visitors 24-2... On Sunday, senior foward Kim Povill (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead at New Hampshire before the hosts netted two goals in a five-minute span late in the game to seize the win.
BOSTON UNIVERSITY TERRIERS
Freshman Tiya Gallegos' (Lakewood, Calif./Mayfair) first collegiate goal proved to be the game winner as the Boston University women's soccer team (4-5-1, 1-0-0 America East) edged Vermont, 1-0, in the America East conference opener on Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field... Gallegos provided the heroics early in the second half, and the defense took over as senior Christina Reuter (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) made three saves in the shutout effort... Gallegos gave the Terriers the go-ahead goal at 65:09 when junior Marisha Schumacher-Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) sent a long pass to Gallegos in the box. Vermont's goalkeeper Eliza Bradley came off her line to cut off the run, but Gallegos was persistent and stripped the ball right off Bradley's foot and slotted it into the lower left corner...On Tuesday, the team dropped a 1-0 decision to Ivy League foe Yale in New Haven, Conn... The Bulldogs scored the game winner early in the first half and held on as the Terriers mounted offensive pressure... BU plays just one game this week as it travels to Albany, N.Y. for a 3:00 p.m. contest with the Great Danes.
HARTFORD HAWKS
Hartford (2-5-2, 0-0-0 America East) dropped two games last week. The Hawks fell 2-0 at Colgate University on Friday before being clipped 3-2 in overtime by Central Connecticut State University on Sunday. The loss to CCSU was Hartford's first at Al-Marzook Field this season... Juniors Kacey Busque (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) and Chiara Caen (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) each scored a goal in the loss to CCSU. Busque's tally came in the first half when classmate Ashley Carriera (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) sprung her on a breakaway down the right sideline. It was her team-leading second goal of the season. Caen's first goal of the season came on a penalty kick in the 89th minute to tie the game at 2-2... Senior forward Meagan Riemer (Ellington, Conn./Ellington), senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Cook (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Halifax Grammar) and junior defender Kellie Leyland (Merseyside, England/Women's International Football Academy) did not see action last week. All three were each major award winners in 2006, as Riemer was named striker of the year, Cook was named goalkeeper of the year and Leyland was named defender of the year... In Cook's absence, freshman Alexandra Baker (Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) made her first starts in goal, making 13 saves in two games... Hartford begins conference play this week with contests against Stony Brook and at Binghamton. The Hawks went undefeated against conference opponents last season en route to America East regular season and tournament championships.
NEW HAMPSHIRE WILDCATS
New Hampshire (5-4-1, 1-0-0) went 1-1-0 last week, losing on the road to Dartmouth, 2-0, and snapping its three-game losing skid with a 2-1, come-from-behind win at home against America East foe Binghamton ... Senior midfielder Marianne Rivard (West Kingston, R.I./LaSalle Academy) tallied her first goal of the season when she hammered home the gamewinner versus Binghamton on a drive from 30 yards out in the 78th minute ... Senior midfielder Adriana Gonzalez-Medina (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) got the Wildcats on the board, and broke their 373 minute, 33 second scoreless streak in the 74th minute with the equalizer against the Bearcats ... Junior forward Michelle Sheehan’s (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) assist on the game-winning goal tied her for the team lead in helpers (2) and points (12) ... Freshman midfielder Cassandra Guerra (DeWitt, N.Y./DeWitt) recorder her first collegiate assist on the game-tying goal ... Sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Golding (Milton, Mass./Milton) made five saves against Binghamton to record her team-leading third win of the season.
MAINE BLACK BEARSMaine (3-4-2, 1-0-0 America East) split its two games this past week, including a 2-0 loss at Brown on Tuesday, and a 4-0 win over Albany in the Black Bears’ America East opener on Sunday ... The Black Bears are now 3-1-1 in their last five games with all three victories coming via shutouts ... Laura Martel (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston H.S.) scored two goals in Sunday’s win over Albany, marking the second time in the last three games she has scored a pair of goals in a contest ... Martel now has four goals on the season, which surpasses her total of three for all of last season ... Veronique Fleury (Montreal, Quebec/College Saint Sacrement) had a goal and an assist versus the Great Danes ... Laura Harper (Nepean, Ontario/Mother Teresa H.S.) added the other goal for the Black Bears against Albany ... Goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips (Nepean, Ontario/Merivale H.S.) needed to make just two saves to earn the win over Albany ... She has yielded zero goals in four of her last five contests ... UMBC RETRIEVERS
UMBC (1-7-2, 0-1-0 America East) dropped its America East opener, 3-0, to host Stony Brook on Sept. 30... The Retrievers have been shut out in two games in a row... UMBC has never won its America East opener in five seasons in the conference and has been shut out in four of them... Nine of the Retrievers’ 10 goals and 20 of their 27 points this season have been scored by freshmen... Senior forward Jessica Young (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) is the lone upperclassmen with a goal this year... Young ranks fifth all-time at UMBC with 24 career goals, and she is tied for sixth with 55 career points... After five straight away games, the Retrievers return home this week to host America East rival New Hampshire on Oct. 4, before heading back on the road to take on conference foe Maine on Oct. 7.
STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES
Stony Brook (4-2-3, 0-0-0 America East) opened up the week with its third consecutive scoreless tie in its final non-conference match before conference play against Manhattan. Sophomore keeper Marisa Viola was stellar again, as she made 11 saves in registering her third straight shutout. The Seawolves broke their own scoreless drought which spanned seven halfs and three games on Sunday against UMBC when Brook Barbuto scored just over a minute into the second half to give SB a 1-0 lead it would not relinquish. Stony Brook would tack on two more goals, setting a season-high for goals in a game with three.
VERMONT CATAMOUNTS
Vermont (1-8-1, 0-1-0 America East) is looking to snap a nine-game winless streak when the Catamounts travel to Binghamton on Wednesday (Oct. 4) for a 7:00pm game ... Half of Vermont’s losses have been by just one goal this season ... Freshman Jessica Becker (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional) leads the team in scoring with six points on three goals ... Sophomore goalkeeper Eliza Bradley (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) leads the league in saves with 83 on the year ... Vermont will close out a nine-game road swing with the trip to Binghamton ... The Catamounts will return to their home turf at Centennial Field for the first time in 35 days on Sunday (Oct. 7) when they host Stony Brook at 1:00pm.
