Proctor's National Best Sub-Four Minute Mile Highlights Weekly Track and Field Award Winners

Boston University's David Proctor (Rochdale, England) and University at Albany's Jessica Ortman (Williamsville, N.Y.) have been named America East Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, respectively, while Albany's Luke Schoen (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Boston University's Tahari James (Branford, Conn.) earn Men’s and Women's Field Performers of the week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (January 30).

Proctor set a university and facility record, running a sub-four minute mile on Saturday at the Terrier Invitational. He beat out 91 other runners to take first-place with a time of 3:59.14. Boston University's previous record for the mile was set in 1981 by Tro Billings who ran the mile in 4:00.4. Proctor was the sole athlete to complete the mile in under four minutes in the finals.

Ortman won the 500-meters and qualified for the ECAC meet in a time of 1:15.22 at the Boston Indoor Games, hosted by Northeastern University. She was also a member of the first-place 4x400 relay team, which won the event in 3:54.22. Ortman has now won the 500-meters, 800-meters (twice) and the mile at the various events this season.

Schoen won the pole vault with a distance of 15-feet, 5.75 inches, at Boston University's Terrier Invitational. It was the freshman's second victory and his second-highest vault of the season.

James broke a university record during the Terrier Invitational, by leaping to a distance of 20-feet, 3.75 inches in the long jump, taking first-place in the event. She was the sole Terrier to break twenty-feet in the finals. With the jump, James reached the provisional standard for the NCAA Indoor Championships. James also placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 42-feet, 2.75 inches, producing another provisional standard for the NCAA Championships.
