The 2003 America East Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship will be held February 14-16 at the University of Maine’s Stanley M. Wallace Pool on the Orono campus. It will mark the sxith time in the 12 championships that Wallace Pool has been the site of the conference's premier swimming event. Last season when Northeastern University won its third-straight women’s championship while Boston University captured the men’s title for the first time since 1994.
America East member institutions-- Binghamton University, Boston University, Maine, University of New Hampshire, Northeastern (women only), Stony Brook University and University of Vermont?will compete for the 2003 championships.
The conference has annually sponsored a Swimming and Diving Championship since 1990.
NCAA Swimming and Diving Rules on scoring championship meets where 16 competitors qualify for the finals shall be followed. The scoring of place values is: relays, 40 ? 34 ? 32 ? 30 ? 28 ? 26 ? 24 ? 22 ? 18 ? 14 ? 12 ? 10 ? 8 ? 6 ? 4 - 2; individual events, 20 ? 17 ? 16 ? 15 ? 14 ? 13 ? 12 ? 11 ? 9 ? 7 ? 6 ? 5 ? 4 ? 3 ? 2 ? 1. Except in relay events, which shall be time final events, points for first through eighth place will be awarded solely on the basis of a championship final. Points for ninth through 16th place will be awarded solely on the basis of a consolation final.
