UMBC's Aaron James (Glen Dale, Md./Duval) and Vermont's Diana Purtz (Powell, Ohio/ Powell) have been named America East Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, respectively, while Maine's Khabir Edwards (Portland, Maine/Portland) and Vermont's Jan Carlson (Vernon, Vt./Brattleboro) earn Men’s and Women's Field Performers of the week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (January 16).
James won the 60-meter hurdles at the Bucknell Gulden Relays this past weekend, tying his own school record and achieving and IC4A qualifying time with a time of 8.22 seconds. James was also a member of the winning 4 x 60 meter shuttle hurdles relay and the winning 4 x 200 meter relay which set a new UMBC record with a time of 1:30.51.
Purtz picked up a pair of first place finishes at a tri-meet with Dartmouth and New Hampshire. She won the mile with a time of 5:00.64, beating her closest competitor by eleven seconds. Purtz also won the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:59.27.
Edwards had two first-place finishes as the Black Bears won the Sherbrooke Invitational. In the long jump, he was first with a jump of 6.64 meters. In the high jump, Edwards tied for first place by clearing 1.97 meters.
Carlson won three events at the tri-meet. She captured the long jump with a mark of 5.58 meters and the triple jump with a leap of 11.26 meters. Carlson also won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.79 seconds.
