Boston University's Petur Sigurdsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland/Commercial Coll. of Iceland) has been named America East Player of the Week for men's soccer, while New Hampshire's Chris Banks (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) has garnered Rookie of the Week honors.
Sigurdsson tallied four goals in the Terriers' first three games lifting Boston U. to a 3-0-1 record out of the gate. In the season opener, a 2-1 double-overtime win over ACC-foe Boston College, the Iceland native erased a 1-0 deficit to send the game to overtime as he netted the equalizer with 2:27 left in regulation. He also scored the game-tying goal in Boston U's home opener against Massachusetts, scoring just over a minute after the Minutemen broke open the scoring in the 76th minute in what would be a 1-1 draw. In the Terriers 3-0 road triumph over Georgia Southern, Sigurdsson broke a scoreless tie in the 53rd minute before securing the first multi-goal game of his career just over 11 minutes later.
Banks, tied for the league lead in goals and points, scored four goals in four games for the Wildcats. In his first collegiate game, he scored all three goals in UNH's 3-2 win over Cal Poly. The freshman forward would add another in a 1-1 tie to St. Peter's. For his efforts, he was named to the UNH Nike Fall Soccer Classic All-Tournament team. The Wildcats remain undefeated at 2-0-2 through the first two weekends of the regular season.
